To-Do Tuesday #247 Weekly Update

Join us today for the 247th weekly To-Do Tuesday list and update. Linda hosts the To-Do Tuesday linky party and we appreciate her weekly encouragement. Thank you, Linda!

To-Do for the week of March 1st through 7th:

  1. Basketballs for Colt’s quilt √ Done
  2. Two by Four leader/ender blocks – √ Done
  3. Start a new mini-project – √ Done
  4. No mas = stress-free

To Do #1

What do you think of the addition of the basketball on the design wall? Three basketballs were completed along with the start of the fourth when I ran out of bobbin thread. To say that I am happy with how the basketballs turned out is a huge understatement! I am beyond thrilled which brings me back to the flat golf ball. I know, I shouldn’t focus on the previous favorite that has fallen from the number one spot. We still have some potential fixes up our sleeve but haven’t taken the time to give them a try. A few squirrels got loose in our sewing room this weekend to take up our Colty quilting-making time.

To-Do #2

Very little was accomplished on this leader/ender project, in spite of Hands 2 Help signups opening on March 20th! There is no reason this quilt isn’t completely finished other than my lollygagging about. I did manage to get all the sewn pieces officially ironed and sorted by their “dark” color. The completed colors have been organized neatly (is there any other way??!) in a shoebox provided by my orderly sous chef, Sue. She is trying to keep us on task!

To-Do #3

Start a new mini-project?!! Well, I misspoke when I shared pictures on Instagram on Saturday. We did sanction one new project . . . but as I mentioned earlier, TWO squirrels showed up and ran in when I answered the door. Darn it. Let me share one of the new projects – info on the second one will be shared on Saturday. Saturday, March 12th to be exact. After seeing a sunflower block on Mary’s website last week, I decided that was a great way for us to help the Ukrainian people. I reached out to Kristy Lea to ask her if I might be able to use her pattern? My plan is to make three of the 12-inch blocks into a table runner, list it in our Etsy shop, and give all of the money to a vetted charity.

My usual optimism was severely challenged even though this is NOT a difficult paper-piecing project. PP. What on earth was I thinking? Well, that I would be able to whip through the necessary 10 wedges needed for ONE block, or all 30 wedges on Saturday. After completing a single wedge by 5 pm on Saturday, I realized that my expectations far, far, and very far exceeded my abilities. Slogging will continue on the remaining 29 wedges and the runner will be listed just as fast as I can. My dreams for making many of these runners have been adjusted to just one. There may be appliqued versions made instead! (I am REALLY happy with how the single wedge turned out, though!)

To-Do for the week of March 8th through 14th:

  1. Balls for Colt’s quilt – basketball anyone? There are 16 more blocks to make
  2. Work on the first squirrel project – it needs to be finished quickly!
  3. Start a new mini-project – could have been a SAL but is not
  4. No mas – just enough to keep it stress-free!

  1. Well, you can tell I’m behind this week!! LOL Those darn squirrels can be a pain…but they are fun too!! Really love the basketball. I surely need one of the Sue souz chefs at my house! Mine is partially color blind, so he’s not a lot of help! LOL

  2. Chrisknits says:

Do I need to send a Squirrel Wrangle to your house? LOL! Hope you are getting more wedges made, better than getting a Wedgie?

  3. Squirrels – yes, they do get to us, don’t they! I’m liking your sunflower – it promises to be beautiful! And it’ll go faster – promise!
    Happy Quilting! 🙂

You did well last week. Colt’s various balls are all looking good. Ah, paper piecing can be a joy or a horror, sorry it was more of the latter for you. Be careful opening that door…those squirrels are so fast!

  5. That basketball looks very real. They all look good, I know you are not happy with the golf ball but I suspect you do have an idea for it if needed. Maybe the paper piecing will get faster as you go along and get more familiar with it. Very wonderful thing to be doing – I have seen some yellow/blue blocks around as quilters rally.

  6. Rochelle Summers says:

Oh Roseanne!! Those paper piecing projects that are supposed to be easy, can make a grown woman cry in no time at all. I keep my Grim Ripper close by and usually cannot finish as quickly as I had planned. After all, paper piecing is supposed to make everything so easy!! But on another note, that basketball looks just perfect and this quilt will be so nice when done. Keep up the good work and living a stress-free life.

    Hi,
I like your ball quilt….they look so real. I checked out the link for the Sunflower. I may have to make one of those. I think a squirrel just ran into my quilt room! I have a lot of squirrels pop into my head, but I can’t do them all or I’d never get any of them done. So they go into a folder of quilts I want to make. Have a great day!

  8. Your blocks for Colt’s quilt are looking great, Roseanne! And I love your idea for the sunflower table runner. It’s so hard to know what to do to help. Good luck with your list this week?

  9. Vicki in MN says:

The basketball is looking fantastic!! Those sneaky squirrels can sure entertain us though;) The sunflower runner will be gorgeous and popular I think!!

  10. Wendy Tuma says:

I’m glad Sue-sous is keeping you organized and moving forward – haha! I have another idea for the golf ball, if you are interested. The basketball is amazing – good work! I’m so glad the squirrels stopped by for a party! I need to find Winnie (I think she went south for the winter) and get a party started!

  11. Cheree Hull says:

Sneaky squirrels! But once they’re in, you may as well just throw a party and enjoy, right? Love the basketball!

  12. Linda says:

Roseanne, I laughed out loud about the squirrel who ran into your room when you answered the door. It’s looking good so far! LOVE the basketballs! Does Sue hire out as a Sue-sous chef?
Thank you for linking up with To Do Tuesday!
