June HoneyBee and Monthly Color Challenge Blocks

Our monthly blocks are finished just in the nick of time and before June is over.  Two blocks are for Susan in the IG HoneyBees group and the other is for Jen’s 2019 Monthly Color Challenge.

Orange June Challenge

Jen released the June block over three weeks ago featuring orange this month.  I shared all the info about her flower choice to represent this color and a few other details in the Orange June Monthly Challenge Block post.  While Sue rallied and cut the fabrics for me, I finished up some Hidden Star quilting.  I think these two orange fabrics have enough contrast to make this block stand out, don’t you?  My weekend sewing party ended with this pretty result:

June orange

The pattern reminds me of the Card Trick block that we used in a quilt for my niece, Betsy, several decades ago.  I am happy to share our blocks for the first six months of 2019 in no particular order:

HoneyBee June Block

Susan S. is the queen bee this month and her block choice is called Jagged Little Pill.  She shared a sample of the Jagged Little Pill block and her fabric preferences.  Those details about her Christmas-y choices were shared in a post called June Bee Hive Jagged Little Pill Block earlier this month.

First of all, Sue pulled out some of our Christmas fabrics and we selected those that didn’t have a noticeable directional pattern in them.  From a line by Me and My Sister, these fabrics are some of our very favorites!  This was a fun and easy block to construct, and I would definitely make it again.  A big thank you goes to Susan S. for giving us a paper piecing break this month!

As a result of time well spent this past weekend, these blocks catch us up for the month.  Susan’s blocks went in the mail on Monday.

Two great block finishes. Your color choices/fabrics for each set of blocks is just perfect for contrast and showcasing the patterns.

  2. Yes, there is enough contrast between the two fabrics. I think one is light orange and the other is rust (just my opinion) but it sure looks like the Card Trick Block.

Love the colors in your block – keep it that way. Reminds me of orange sherbert!
