January Table Runner – Snowmen
It has been a while since you heard anything from the Table Runner Aways Club. The most recent project was the apple table runner that we finished in late August. Since then, the club has fallen apart a bit. The three members of the club were all at the same school building, but new positions for all three of them have resulted in them being split up a bit. The January table runner was the next table runner to be made by all of us (I’m an honorary member). The pattern is by Kim Schaefer.
Back in November I started working on the wonky little appliqué squares that form the outside border of the table runner. That was kind of fun and easy to sneak a few in between other projects. Here are all the wonkies complete:
January Table Runner Continued
The next step was to prepare the background blocks, and then add the snowmen appliqué pieces. Fortunately, my new sewing machine makes that whole process a breeze and a pleasure that I don’t mind at all.
We decided to modify Kim’s pattern and make only four snowmen instead of the five she called for. We have a large island, but the full length is just too much. That is all well and fine, except we forgot to make adjustments in the border blocks. Oops!
We are now at the construction stage, and the wonky blocks do not align with the four snowmen blocks. Eleven wonkies are too short while twelve of them are too long. If you look at the original pattern picture above, you can see there are snowflakes amongst the wonkies. We elected to leave them out. We will have to add in one or two narrow black blocks with embroidery snowflakes on them to make up the fabric shortage. I had hoped to share a finish with you today but instead it is a near finish with a little issue to be solved. ~smile~ Soon though, soon.

Roseanne, I am absolutely confident that you will solve your small issue and that the table runner will look amazing! 🙂
Hi Cindy,
Still thinking on it . . . maybe later this week when I don’t have a darn head cold. ~smile~ Roseanne
Oh so sorry! 🙁
I love the runner but if you made it again you could always try measuring the length you needed and cutting it in one length, them you could just place the squares and snowflakes on fudging it so the fit. Hope you get it finished in time for Christmas.
Hi Kate,
Yeah, that would have been a good thing but it never crossed my mind that we had to worry about it! It won’t be finished for Christmas but shortly thereafter. MC to you and your family! ~smile~ Roseanne
Well bummer, but you will soon be there!!
Hi Vicki,
I would enlist the help of the snowman queen if you lived closer! We’ll get there sooner than later since January is still a whole nine days away. ~smile~ Roseanne
Almost there! I’m sure you’re going to get it figured out!
Hi Shannon!
Yeah, we’ll have to figure out something. I want it off the plate before the end of the year. Merry Christmas to you and your family! ~smile~ Roseanne
Well snowmen are so adorable and I’m sure with your skills and two heads, you’ll sort this out. But thanks for sharing a hiccup…I am always running into things like this so it’s good to know I’m not the only one!
Hi Jocelyn,
No, you are not the only one! At least as far as I’m concerned. Yeah, we’ll figure out something . . . I want it finished. ~smile~ Roseanne
