Heart! Project Quilting 11.3 Challenge

We are giving the Project Quilting challenge a try.  This week for the 11.3 or third installation (season 11, week three), we are asked to incorporate a heart.   We missed the first challenge but 11.2 (season 11, second challenge) we happily played along with.  It was called Team Colors, and you know we had to represent football.  There was one week to make something with the inspiration for Team Colors.  We chose a snappy little Packers cozy but enough about the second challenge.  I’m sad the professional football season is over until July/August.

Heart Project Quilting 11.3 Assignment

In spite of Super Bowl Sunday coinciding with the release date for PQ 11.3, I found plenty of time to stalk the release.  Did you make any special treats for the game?  Did you even watch the game?  **Side-note story below**  Okay, back to the subject at hand of heart or hearts.  That sounds like an appliqué project just waiting to be born. ♥ ♥ ♥

And, it just so happens that we need a new front door hanging to welcome friends and family.  Perfecto!

Project Quilting 11.3 Heart Aplenty

Heart applique

I pulled out a bunch of red/white, red and pink fabrics and cut them into random heart shapes.  Both the long and skinny and the wide and stout hearts are represented.  Appliquéing started in earnest and was completed in a one-hour session.  Borders were added, it was layered and quilting began with wavy lines.

Heart Finish – Challenge Met

I added corner hangers at the same time as the binding, but not without an oops first.  Yeah, I put the hangers on the bottom edges of the piece the first time!  I just cut off the mistakes, cut two new 3″ squares and sewed them right over the original binding stitching lines.  Finally, ta-da!  Here’s the finished piece on our front door.

**Side-note about the Super Bowl.  Groundhog Day was filmed in Woodstock, IL and my sister lives there. It was a huge event and you will enjoy newspaper articles from the era in stores all along the Square.  Bill Murray and the other actors from the film descended upon Woodstock to film a commercial reenacting the movie.  Watch for it or have you seen it?!

  2. Hi Roseanne, that’s a great little door hanging. I used to have them on my door but when the wind is from the west, my hanging goes for a flight, often in the mud, so there is no more door hanging 🙁 I sort of miss them.
