Family Wall Hanging and Two Table Runners

Many moons ago, we made a wall hanging depicting Janice’s family (Sue’s sister). Each block was designed to reflect the personality of the five members along with a few generalized blocks.

Andrea’s husband, Chris, saw the wall hanging and wondered if we could make one for them. Could we? Would we? Yes, we would. So, Auntie Sue got busy. She interviewed Dominic and Addison, who shared their opinions on which block should be theirs and what it should contain.

Family Creative Blocks

Once the interviews were complete, Sue started pulling fabrics in earnest. They live in a blue house and have swings in the backyard. Those two blocks came together quickly, especially the one with the pink swing. Chris is a huge Milwaukee Brewers fan so including the team colors and logo was an easy choice. Lots of buttonhole appliqué ensued, pushing us towards a finish.

Family Longarm Session

Once we had the nine center blocks trimmed with their borders, it was time to add the festive multicolored outside finishing border. A small coping border was added before the 2.5″ squares were laid out. I have a handy collection of leftover squares so we pulled out a selection, and I sewed them on. Shortly thereafter, it was time to schedule a date with Millie the longarm. Fortunately, it was easy now that Carol and Ken are both retired, too. We fit in some quilting along with good laughs and lunch out.

It only took a few minutes to quilt using our standard Loop the Loop pantograph. The binding that matches the backing and skinny sashing was added and sewn down. Andrea was happy to find a place to hang it! No, the ABC wall hanging could NOT be replaced.

How would they learn their ABCs is the hanging wasn’t up? Instead, she hung it on the front door and got her three littles to pose for us. We’re happy that the family wall hanging has its final loving new home.

Out-of-season Table Runners

At the same longarm session as the family wall hanging, we also snuck in two out-of-season table runners. You wouldn’t know it from this first picture, but Nicole liked the Halloween table runner we made for Andrea back in September 2023.

She liked it enough to request a version for herself, which we just recently quilted on Carol’s longarm, Millie. They are fairly similar except for the sweet girl posing with the finished piece. The orange ombre spider web fabric has finally been used up. We think there is going to be one more version to eventually be listed in our Etsy shop.

One additional finish on that fun quilting day was the gnomes table runner. Similar to the family wall hanging, this runner also has a final border of 2.5″ squares.

We’re trying to decide when the gnomes will end up, but for now here is the final view of both out-of-season runners!

These three finishes will be shared on Kathleen’s website for TGIFF – Thank Goodness it’s Finished Friday. Please enjoy yours.

  1. Ah Roseanne, you and Sue always look SO happy! Or maybe you’re just happy to finish quilting? LOL! I love your family quilt and how Sue interviewed to do it, what a great idea! It has the look of a quilt I made many years ago with a series of bears doing girly activities. That one went to the (at the time) two little granddaughters who are 20 and 22 now. The table runners are so pretty. You two have perfected the art of making quilts. Your Littles are growing up! Hope you are having a great week and looking forward to a lovely weekend! Hugs to you both.

Well done! Fun to see all the quilts, and the littles so excited about that quilt. Thank goodness you found another place for the ABCs too – that is necessary! You finished the gnome runner – yay! After all that, I hope you two enjoy a lovely, relaxing weekend!

How much fun is all of that! I was hoping to get close ups of each of the family blocks…but what a fabulous idea…done for another special family! I am so glad you enjoy your time with Sue and Rick and Millie! I am sure there are lots of laughs and lots of good work. Thanks for sharing on TGIFF!

Isn’t that great!! You get to quilt with friends, have lunch, laugh and finish up projects…any time of the year. My sis and I were talking about working. She (retired about 17 years) says she could go get a job tomorrow. I said I didn’t know how I’d find time to work with all the fun things I’m doing now!!! So glad you and Sue get to enjoy your retirement with friends and family. Hugs and Lots of Smiles.
