Fluffer Nutter Table Runner Finish – Mystery QAL

Cindy at In A Stitch Quilting  and Tracy at Its A T-Sweets Day are hosting a mystery quilt along.  There was one requirement for the QAL and that was to use the Moda fabric called Fluffer Nutter.

Fluffer Nutter is on the left and Picnic is a complimentary fabric from the same line on the right.  I think these fabrics have a modern edge to them.  We chose to use that modern fabric with an older pattern and one of our new favorites, the Evening Star.

Fluffer Fun

Sue cut some strips, I sewed them together to make strip sets and we made four nine-patch center blocks.  We alternated the centers – one with more light blue featured and others with more navy.  We added the HSTs, a border and that was it.  Then the hard part – how to quilt it??

Thankfully, Cindy had to do some quilting on some quilts for her mom.  One of those quilts involved stars, luckily for me.  Cindy included some closeup shots of how she quilted the stars and BINGO.  Finally!  That is how I can quilt this table runner, and will also inspire the Evening Star quilt that has been on hold for so long.  Rather simple, triangles in the triangle squares and squares in the square squares.  (Woo – how many times can you type square in one sentence!)

Here’s a closeup of the quilting.  Basic straight-line in the skinny light blue border, and a chevron in the wider outer border.

A Fluffer Finish

This table runner went together very quickly!  It finished at 15″ by 41″.  I had thought about giving it to my sister but realized it probably is too short for her dining room table.  We have something else in mind for her!  Here’s one final shot of the Fluffer runner on our dinette table.

Wonderful choices of pattern and color, fabulous finish with that quilting. I might be able to handle straight lines on something small, but you did a great job with shapes. Thanks for showing the backing.

      Hi Susan,
You are so sweet to say that. I tried my hand at FMQ this weekend, and that wasn’t so great. Oh well, I can only improve with more practice. ~smile~ Roseanne

Roseanne, that is so cool! That fabric reminds me a bit of some sun-dyed fabric my grandmother made by placing hand-crocheted doilies over the fabric. What sweet memories you brought back to me!

Thank you so much! I love that table – it was my mom’s and we had good times eating at that table. I hate to cover it with a tablecloth so runners are perfect. ~smile~ Roseanne
