Yippee! It’s March – Time for OMG!

Thank heavens February is in the rearview mirror now.  Bye!  See you again in 11 months.  After having an easy start to winter, this calendar year has given us one to remember.  It’s time to reflect for a moment and select our March OMG project.  Patty at Elm Street Quilts hosts a linky party for all to join in.  If you finish your OMG project as you have defined it, you just may win one of the prizes.  Thank you to Patty and all the sponsors!

March Madness

No, I’m not referring to basketball.  Thirty-one days in length and the final month of the first quarter . . . we have to make a good choice this month.  Wouldn’t you think we would chose something from our First Quarter Finish A Long list?  If you thought that, you would be wrong.  Common sense did NOT prevail.  Instead, we are choosing to make a Dumbo baby quilt as our March OMG project.

Dumbo-1

Dumbo For March

A coworker asked us if we would make a baby quilt for her niece who is expecting in July.  The expecting mom didn’t have a theme other than animals, but the dad-to-be loved Dumbo as a child.  We thought it would be fun to introduce the newborn to the wonders of Dumbo.  The cute panel I found and pictured above has an amazing message to share as well.  Who would not wish amazing things to happen for their child?!  To surround the panel, we found two star-studded fabrics.

The yellow will be the inside border, and has pale stars that exactly match the stars in the panel.  The second border and binding will be comprised of the gray stars.

Backing Fun

We found this lovely print for the backing, with I love you to the moon and back sentiments plus twinkle and stars interspersed throughout.

My plan is to outline Dumbo and all of his features and then add a multitude of stars all over the quilt top.  We would like to have the whole project wrapped up by the end of March for our OMG.  There you have it and we have 31 days to complete it.

Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link above or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to.  Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on.  We would love to see them!

  7. One Monthly Goal – there you go. Its a good one and I loved Dumbo too. It didn’t appeal to me as much when I watched it as an adult with my son, but I did love it then. Good luck on this fun project!

  10. I think forgoing common sense and starting new projects even when you have others already committed to/in the works is a prerequisite of being a quilter. Yay for Dumbo!
