To Ruler or Not To Ruler That is the Question

A blogger friend decided to sell off some of her rulers, and I raised my hand.  Nanette from Chopin – A Passionate Quilter sent me two circular rulers, and I had plans.  Big plans.  Will the desire to ruler actually work?  That is the question, and when you get a new toy you want to use it!

Wish On a Ruler

I have wanted a circular ruler for a Baptist Fan quilting pattern, and Nanette’s set of increasing sizes are perfect.  Not necessarily for Cind-erella but rather a someday-soon type of project.  Perhaps the 3″ side of the ruler would assist with a perfect looking orange peel design?  Alas, no.  The curvature of the ruler is too wide – the stitching would touch the opposite side of the half-square triangle.

Better Than a Ruler?

Swirly flower

I poked around on Pinterest, looking for a video to show me some swirly flowers like a daisy.  The swirl quilting pattern is in my wheelhouse and it wouldn’t be too difficult to add some daisy petals around it.  Throw in a few leaves and boom – done.

Flower and leaves

The quilting of Cind-erella has begun!  A quilting pattern too dense will make it too stiff for a sweet baby girl, so I’m trying to keep it loose.

Your quilting looks wonderful and will end up being just as cuddly as you hoped it would be! I’ve been practicing with rulers with little success, but I will continue to try!

  10. I love the quilting! I did something similar on a quilt for my sister except I made the motif too small. I need to practice because your work is beautiful! That’s what I hope to achieve someday. It’ll be so fun to see this completed quilt.

The quilting design you came up with for Cinderella is lovely! I’d be afraid to try the quilting templates, I’d probably stick one under the needle and be breaking them all the time! Happy Stitching!
