ABC Wall Hanging Finished – Design Wall Empty

ABC is finished!  ABC is finished!  Woohoo.  And the design wall is empty waiting to be filled up with Postcard from Sweden half square triangles.  But enough about Postcard for now . . . back to ABC.  This little gem has been in the works for only ten months, almost to the day.  April 19th I took a picture when beginning to work on the first wall hanging.

ABCs

We worked on picking up the little pieces that fluttered to the ground over the eight months it hung out on the wall.  Truly, quite a few pieces did fall off.  Like there was a little kitty batting at them . . . but no kitty in our house.  In December, this project made it to our UFO list.

ABC Attention

Once it made it to the UFO list, it was time to get serious and get it complete.  February was the month to get moving!ABC Negelected

Two rows finally together (and pieces on the checkerboard bench).  One more week and another row on.

ABC Final Steps

And at last, here it is complete with borders and Sue is quilting it.

The final steps were to add the binding and hangers, and then hand sew the binding down on the back.  It may be listed in our Etsy shop unless Dominic needs or wants it for his room. ~smile~

This is such a fun quilt, it’s so bright and happy. I love the font you used for the letters.

      Hi Nancy,
Thank you so much! That is so sweet of you to say. I had lots of fun appliquéing those letters during my lunch break at work. ~smile~ Roseanne

I like the hearts as the filler blocks to even out the alphabet – great design decision!

    • Roseanne says:

Thank you, Susan! It is too hard to divide the 26 letters into a quilt without adding a few spacers. They might as well be hearts! ~smile~ Roseanne

Yay for a finish!! I really think this is such a cute quilt! I understand also wanting to free up the design wall too. On to the next project!

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Christine,
Yes indeed, on to the next project. Thankfully, I have a next project(s) that I can devote my attention to. ~smile~ Roseanne

Very bright and fun! Congrats on the finish and for getting one off the UFO list.

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Kate,
Woot woot – it was a dual purpose finish, and it is wonderful to not have to look at it several times a day. The design wall is just outside my bedroom door, so I saw it every.day.for.the.last.several.months. ~smile~ Roseanne

Of course, Dominic needs it to learn the alphabet. Can’t get started on reading too early. You, or mom, can sing the alphabet song with him while pointing to the letters. How fun for you to have a baby to make quilts for.

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Rosemarie!
I just was singing to Dominic the ABC song this morning! I had him for a few hours while mom went to the gym. Thank you so much for your visit and comment! I appreciate it very much. I just love that baby! ~smile~ Roseanne

Such a lovely finish and I hope it finds a very proud place on a wall somewhere, great addition for a child’s room. Well done.

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Kathryn,
Aww, aren’t you sweet. It’s a big use of small scraps in all the sashing. That is one of the things I love the most about it. ~smile~ Roseanne

    Congratulations! ABC looks great!

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Gail,
I already included it in February’s UFO post so it’s old news to you. Thank you though! ~smile~ Roseanne

What a darling quilt. Now get that design wall filled up with more fiber goodness!

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Chris!
HAHA – it is already filled up with Sue’s bubbles quilt. I think it was empty a whole 24 hours until she noticed and said HEY. ~smile~ Roseanne

  9. Roseanne, How awesome to finally be able to add this to your finished pile! It looks so fun and so inviting for a child. Who knows if Dominic will “need” it! 😊

  10. Shannon Fleming says:

Kids always think they “need” the quilt you’re making! This one is cute.

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Shannon,
That is just SO true! Is that for me?!! HAHA! He is just a bit too little to know that he needs it or not . . . but mom sure isn’t. ~smile~ Roseanne

  11. Vicki in MN says:

Congrats on the finish-super wonderful! Now hurry to the next thing on your list,LOL

    • Roseanne says:

Good Morning Vicki! I am so darn glad to not have to look at those ABCs on the design wall any longer. It actually was completely empty for a whole day until Sue realized it and put her quilt on it. Yup, on to the next thing – Postcard sewing this weekend for sure. ~smile~ Roseanne
