Squirrelly Icon Elements Quilt Top-to-be

Last month, Patty at Elm Street Quilts shared a project she is hand quilting.  Check out Patty’s version as she also hand-pieced it and it has become a squirrel-type project for me.  I wanted to drop everything and make it . . . but we didn’t have the fabrics needed in our stash.

Thankfully, fabrics are available at the tip of your fingertips at any time of the day or night.  Sue and I searched the Fat Quarter Shop for eligible candidates and Icon Elements presented itself.  How much fabric did we think we needed, though?

EQ8 Icon Magic

After popping on the internet to find the perfect fabric, EQ8 was needed for a little visual magic.  The Drunkard’s Path block is a block that is included in EQ8’s block library, so it was only a matter of choosing a size.  A size for the block, a size for the quilt top and whether a border should or should not be added.

More importantly, it determined just how much fabric would be needed for each color.  It seems that 3/8 of a yard is the largest amount so we were able to order the Icon Elements bundle.  Templates have been printed for the six-inch blocks and a squirrelly-jump-to-the-front-of-the-line project has been born.

Such beautiful fabric. Patty’s reminds me of hand dyed fabrics. I can’t wait to see your progress with this. Keep us in the loop!

  8. Look at you and your EQ quilt! I love this and you will have so much fun. I am curious what cutting technique are you using – hate curves on the rotary cutter. Patty hand pieced hers, will you?

  11. I have loved seeing Patty’s project, too, Roseanne, and have thought about making it myself. Are you going to hand piece it? 😉 Your fabrics are pretty!

  12. Love your fabric choice — I’ll need to purchase some also! Do you have the Omnigrid Arc ruler? If so I can teach you a trick for cutting out your drunkard path templates. I’m amazed at how much math I learned a zillion years ago applies to my quilt projects 🙂
