Weeks 3 & 4 Hidden Stars SAL
Stars in a quilt?! Count me in – we love stars, especially or even hidden ones. Sherry from Powered by Quilting is the hostess for this sew along. With postings every other week, the SAL is tentatively scheduled to end mid-March. We’ve set this as a first quarter goal, which may and should be possible, to have a quilt top.
Week Three of Hidden
January 22nd we received the next directions in the sew along. Behind us was selecting our fabrics along with cutting and labeling. I am so thankful to have Sue keeping me on task for those two steps. I admit it – I am a shortcut taker. Labeling may happen now and then, but not to the extent that Sherry recommends. Perhaps that is why I have a good relationship with Mr. Ripper?!
Sherry shared some great tips on the sewing of these corner blocks. She even shared a video on her Facebook page! How sweet and cool is that?!
Week Four of Hidden
Chain piecing is recommended, and that is one of my favorite things. Nothing like zip, zip, zipping those seams together. Sherry’s only recommendation is to do all of the Block A pieces together before starting on the Block B ones. Hmm. That not only sounds like a good idea, but perhaps she is speaking from experience. Once you mix up those pieces, and without their labels?! Well, what’s to say which is A or B? In this case, I listened well. We are left with these cute little piles, awaiting the next instructions.
Lastly, Sherry even shared pressing directions! Woot woot. There is a Facebook page for sharing updates. Additionally, there is a hashtag on social media of #PBQHiddenStarsSAL if you’d like to check on the progress. This is week four. A.k.a., in just a few days Sherry will have more instructions and tips for us. Yippee!
Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link above or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to. Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on. We would love to see them!
What fun! Your colors are bound to be successful, they are so cheery!
So well organized! Get yourself some of those square storage boxes to keep them in. They work great to keep everything together.
Another SAL? Because you two don’t have enough else going on, huh? hahahaha. That fabric is beautiful You may have said this before (but I have a mind quite like a macaroni strainer) but would you please tell me the name? thanks and stay warm!
Looks good to me! Was hoping to get there today, but nada. Maybe tomorrow, but am scattered trying to finish a pattern and do some. socializing the next few days!
I am so not good at labeling things. Even though I have a gazillion sticky note pads floating around the sewing room! But then, maybe I just like buying sticky note pads?
Hello Roseanne, Labeling is one of those nifty tips someone gave me long ago and I do all of the time now. Chain piecing is another fun technique that you described perfectly. Although, I still just go chug a chug, chugging along. LOL. With all of those brilliant colors this quilt is going to be so fun! I look forward to seeing it as it develops. I was reading about all of the freezing temperatures that everyone is facing, I hope that you ladies were fortunate enough not to have to go out and that the remainder of your family are also staying inside safe and warm. I will never forget those freezing wind chill factors of 20 to 4o below living in North Dakota for 4 years and Wyoming for 16. Take care and have a great day creating quilts!
I need to go back to your previous posts to see what this QAL is all about! I totally agree with you on chain piecing! It’s so much fun to put the pedal to the metal!
Roseanne and Sue — I hope you are staying warm in the brutal weather! I tend to not follow the “finer” instructions. I bet I would have just chain-pieced everything, then regretted it while I tried to sort everthing out . Looking forward to the final reveal.
Good morning Roseanne…I label everything also – can’t wait to see the hidden stars- I really love the fabric you and Sue are using! We’re going on a road trip to look at new machines today 🙂
I’ve learned the necessity of labeling the hard way. No surprise, huh? I think you’re going to like how your quilt turns out!
Yay for being organized! I’m by nature a short cut gal like you and have to force myself to label things. Nothing is more frustrating than walking away from a project, coming back to it and having no idea what is going on. Let me say I love the fabrics you guys are using! This will be fun to watch come together.
I will definitely be following along as I want to see if I can find those hidden stars! Love the fabric you’re using. Stay warm and have a great day, Mary.
I guess i forgot to mention once you have your corners sew, the labels for those pieces don’t “really” matter anymore. 😂
I’m so glad you are sewing along!
