To-Do Tuesday #35 & Monday Musing

Two of our friends host a weekly linky party. Brenda at Songbird Designs has a Monday linky party called Monday Musings. Our friend Carol at Quilt Schmidt hosts To-Do Tuesday with a linky party as well. We will share our weekly updates on both of their websites.

Walk Challenge Update:

My goal is 10,500 steps a day, and *20-30 minutes of yoga. How did I do last week?

  • 1/21 = 11,550*
  • 1/22 = 12,213*
  • 1/23 = 11,953*
  • 1/24 = 11,548*
  • 1/25 = 11,755*
  • 1/26 = 11,938*
  • 1/27 = 11,833*

To-Do for last week:

  1. Sew the HRT squares into a quilt top – just a suggestion, apparently!
  2. Continue with the appliqueing project for Andrea
  3. Two limit list for a stress-free week

To-Do #1

Seriously. I thought I was going to get to this project at some point during the week. It was on my mind for four of the seven days, but I guess I got a better offer. Like cleaning the house from top to bottom on Wednesday. Surely, I wouldn’t have wanted to sew a few HRTs together instead. I studied it one night as I was going to bed. Anything to make myself tired, I thought. I swapped a few around and then realized what a hot mess that was making. It was too late to revert the pieces as they were so I quickly walked away. The quilt top will NOT resemble this photo now. HAHA!

To-Do #2

1990s version we are replicating with suggestions from our littles

The wall hanging featuring Sunbonnet Sue and Sunbonnet Sam figures representing each family member is a lot closer to being complete. Beyond the nine center blocks are colorful pieces of a yet-to-be-determined size. We are loosely trying to recreate a version of a similar project we made back in the 90s. Since our experience and sewing tools have greatly improved over the years, we are going to wait to determine the size of that skinny border needed. No need to reinvent the wheel or give ourselves any grief!

2024 version for Andrea

I’m so glad I don’t have to pick a favorite block. If I did, it might be Dominic’s until I focus on Addison holding her baby . . . and what about Chase with his favorite garbage truck? Not to mention Andrea with her nod to the Cubs and the medical kit she always has with her. Chris’ block is a great choice for him as he’s a huge Brewers fan. And Movie Night, and the backyard with its three swings – one is pink. How about you? Do you have a favorite?

Extra:

Pattern writing is not for the faint of heart. I mentioned last week that I’m working on a pattern that I published in our Etsy shop. Sue and Carol have volunteered (not really – I forced asked them) to be my proofreaders. After a few tense minutes where Sue almost threw down her proofreader pen . . . we got on the same page and I didn’t take suggestions personally. HA. So many ideas . . . so little time. How, exactly, did I find time to work and get anything done before? It boggles my mind.

Extra – Part 2:

Have you heard the song, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.” It’s very popular with the pre-school crowd. Go ahead, Google it. It is catchy and it will stick with you all day. Anyhoo, back to the point of this Extra statement . . . We’re going to a quilt shop. Yes, we are going to a quilt shop and not just one but two. It’s part of the birthday extravaganza today with our friends, Carol and Ken. Breakfast early, a road trip to the first quilt shop followed by the second quilt shop. There may be some other fun things up our sleeves but we can’t say. Carol WILL read this!

What To-Do Next Week?

  1. Sew the HRT blocks together into a quilt top – let’s try again this week! Get ‘er done for heaven’s sake
  2. Work on the border for the applique project for Andrea
  3. Only two – no stress!

  1. Sometimes you just have to walk away and come back fresh another day! Sounds like you needed a break from it. Love the applique quilt. I look forward to seeing that one completed. Thanks for linking up with Monday Musings!

Some block arrangements just have to marinate. You’ll know when it’s ready to stitch up. Hope you had a wonderful mini quilt shop hop with your friends. Your Sunbonnet Sue/Sam wall hanging is really cute! Happy stitching this week.

I think there are certain projects that need to float around in our minds a few days before we know exactly what we want out of them. And if the house gets cleaned in that process then super! Have fun going on a quilt shop hunt! We’ll be watching for pics! Your Sunbonnet quilts have given me the idea to make something like that for my mother-in-law with all of her great grandkids on it. I’m not really up for all of that applique but maybe if I let that idea float around (and I get my whole house clean, along with maybe a few other houses…) I may someday pull that one off. She’d love it so much, she’d cry every time she saw it. LOL.

  4. Laughed at your HRT story and love the appliqué in both quilts. I reckon cleaning the house from top to bottom was great too. I just got interrupted as I was reading your post and the upshot is I am off into wellington tomorrow and maybe a swim. Just exactly what I need, too hot to sew.

  5. Going on a bear hunt is my granddaughter’s absolute fav thing to do!!! Haha!!! You are surely walking up a storm!!! Your HST commentary made me laugh! I can relate!!! All those SS blocks are fun–how could we pick a fav! Awesome!!!

  6. Chrisknits says:

The appliqué quilt will be the cutest thing!!! It will be cherished forever. Good luck on getting those HSTs together!

  7. Wendy says:

Funny how other tasks usually ignored (at least in this household) suddenly take on priority just to avoid something in the quilt room – LOL. I can completely relate. Those rectangles will get done, it just apparently isn’t the right time yet! Have fun visiting the quilt shops!

  8. Rochelle Summers says:

I couldn’t even claim to be cleaning house! But yesterday afternoon, I finished the UFO (from 2015) top. Congrats on the progress on the Sunbonnets. Also the walking stats. Wishing Carol and Happy Birthday and all of you a fun quilt shop journey. It’s fun to visit one every now and then. And who knows what new things you will see? Have a great week. Hugs!

  9. Laura says:

Happy birthday to Carol and have a great day! Lovin’ the Sue and Sam quilt…what a treasure! 🙂

  10. Kathleen McCormick says:

Funny how that happens and the quilt top just doesn’t get sewn together. I know my week was thrown off kilter last week. Here’s to you getting all your physical goals in, some cleaning and some decisions on that gorgeouos applique. Hope the HRT cooperates this week!

  11. Vicki in MN says:

Sometimes the necessary cleaning has to take precedent doesn’t it. I bet this week you will buckle down and sewing will take place first;) The applique blocks are so fun to check out!
