Lavender September Monthly Color Challenge Block

September of 2019 or month nine is upon us already.  The block for Jen’s 2019 Monthly Color Challenge is here and it features the beautiful lavender color.  If you visit her website the pattern for this block is free for the month of September.

Lavender Challenge

Jen released the September block at the beginning of the month.  The flower that inspired this month’s color challenge is the lilac.  Just thinking about lilacs takes me right back to my childhood bedroom.  Outside my windows was a huge ledge of lilacs.  When I had the window open in Spring the scent would come wafting in on crisp cool air, and I remember lying there enjoying it in the early morning.  I have tried a few times to grow everblooming lilacs but haven’t had much success.  It just might be time to give it a try again.  Here is Jen’s block from her post.

Lavender Strip Piecing

Sue picked the fabrics back in January for the whole year and I do enjoy our lavender choice.  My mom’s name was Violet so anything in the purple family reminds me of her in a pleasant way.  Although lavender isn’t one of my favorite colors, it does look nice with our swiss-dot background fabric.  The slight pattern on the lavender fabric adds some visual interest as well, don’t you think?

Lavender Success

I have to say I enjoyed making this block all around.  The cute little pinwheel in the center makes me smile, and who doesn’t love four-patch blocks?!

Ta-da!  The September block is completely finished and a success.  Woot woot!  Here it is with all of the previous blocks hanging out on the design wall.   Only three more blocks to make!  EEK – that means there are only three full months left in 2019.  Is it just me or is this year speeding by?!

Hello Roseanne, Purple and Lilacs have always been my favorites! Your block is marvelous and a favorite of mine already! Pinwheels and 4 patches are always fun to make, I think. I have never tried growing lilacs before but that is a goal for this spring. Thank you for sharing and have a fabulous day!!
