September Rainbow Ripples OMG Project

It’s time for our September OMG or one monthly goal project to be announced.  We are very thankful that Patty at Elm Street Quilts hosts a linkup party each month.  Her monthly linkup has inspired us to finish a different project each month for over the two years that we’ve joined in.  That’s 24 projects that may or may not have been completed!  I have to confess that Rainbow Ripples came very, very close to becoming a UFO and stashed away in a closet.

Just as I was getting discouraged and unhappy with the quilting patterns I had chosen and tried, Sue talked some sense into me.  Mentioned yesterday in the to-do post, here are two quilting patterns I tried and then we picked out.

Sue reminded me that she wanted the wavy look with the ruler to begin with.  I finally saw the light and acquiesced.  The look on the sample practice sandwich turned out okay . . . so Rainbow Ripples here we come.

To summarize, our September OMG is to quilt and bind the Rainbow Ripples quilt top.  It’s been a while since I used rulers!  I’m hoping it’s like riding a bicycle and it all comes back to me

  1. Well, Roseanne, I’d like to say that is 24 times you set a goal and sincerely attempted to achieve it. The patchwork is wavy and the quilting is curvy. You seem to be in a mood to swing and dance!!! And you have all the reason to with such a lovely top.

I really like the design on the left a lot, but it is labor intensive, and I don’t know what you are doing with the quilt. I think the ripples will be just fine! That’s such a pretty quilt, no matter what.

Love that top and can’t wait to see it done. Good choice on the quilting motif.

  4. I just got mine posted – good luck on your goal!

Love this. Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck on your project.

Funny how Sue just let you go on a little toot and waited patiently for you to come around to her plan! It’s gonna look amazing!

Ha I like both the picked out patterns on the quilt but I am sure the ripples will look even nicer. I was watching a video on YouTube where Angela Walters said quilting with rulers is half way between walking foot and fmq in terms of ease so you should be good. Mind you I have never done ruler foot quilting!

Love the effect of the curved ruler! However, the straight line one makes it look more modern, but not as soft as the waves! Can’t wait to see the finish!
    Happy quilting! 😁

That’s an interesting ruler that I’ve not seen before. I’m looking forward to seeing how the ripples come out on your soon-to-be-finished quilt!

  10. I don’t know woman, I’ll trust you and Sue, but I like the first straight-line quilting one too! All that unpicking, egad! I am sure this one will be better though, knowing you two!

  11. We’re all doing the wave over here, waiting and cheering you on! You go!

  12. I think the wavy lines is a great choice! What brand ruler are you using?

  13. Vicki in MN says:

Can’t wait to see the finish! You got this, you can do it!!

  14. Cocoa Quilts says:

I’m loving the wavy lines. You are really jumping into the quilt rulers. Love it.

  15. Yvonne says:

You can do it! The quilt is beautiful and will be stunning once you are done with the quilting!
