Light-Blue Batik Baby Quilt December OMG

It’s the last One Monthly Goal for 2020. We are ready to say adios to 2020 but not to rush through December! A light-blue batik baby quilt has been in the works or on “The List” for a while so it is well-deserving of attention. Patty at Elm Street Quilts hosts a monthly OMG linky party that we’ve been joining for over three years. It’s fairly easy – set a goal, link up at the beginning of the month, and then link up again at the end with your success.

Light-Blue Whimsy

Why a light-blue baby quilt you might ask? If you were my sister, Carol, you’d immediately say, why not!! Indeed. It is her favorite color and I really wanted to focus on some neutral gender projects. This light-blue fabric is a companion project to a dark-blue baby quilt now being used by our sweet pea, Colt. With his blue eyes, he just HAD to have this quilt.

This photo is from May when he was just a baby and not trying to be a big boy like his cousins. You will find the same charm pack pieces in this light-blue version, although they seem to look completely different by changing to the lighter border.

Light-Blue Baby Wishes

We are expecting a new baby in the family in March, and we know it’s a boy. Although we’ll be making a special edition quilt just for him, it never hurts to have an extra quilt at the ready.

The nine-patch blocks have been counted and thrown on the design wall randomly in a random order of sorts.

Rows have been sewn so we’ll begin to join them into a quilt top. Borders will be added using the light-blue batik. All of these steps plus layering, quilting, and binding will be accomplished as our December OMG project.

A Light-Blue Recap

Thanks to Patty, our December OMG will be to completely finish the light-blue batik baby quilt. It would be fun to get Colt to model for us as he did above but I cannot make any promises. Maybe if I bribe him with some Puffs or good treats of some sort . . . We will be linking up with Patty and this will also be a fourth-quarter finish-along project.

I am sure you will reach that goal! You have a sweet baby model to show it off, there’s no way you won’t get it done.

I love this quilt!! Of course, blue is my favourite colour – so that helps! But I think the fabrics you have make it extra special!!

Wow, you are right that it looks so different from the first quilt you made using the same fabric. It will be nice to have a baby quilt at the ready when something special comes along. I hope you do a year end recap of all the projects you finished this year…if it isn’t too much work. Have a great weekend.

Going to be good. I only used batiks once, not sure I like sewing with them so have left them alone since. I am sewing a blue Jacob’s ladder for my sister at present. Blue is such a great colour. I have made a wrong turn with a half square triangle. So my main sewing goal is going to be to fix it today. It took me a couple of days to see it and now I see it each time! I love there is a new addition to your family in March. It is so exciting to see them all coming along. We just had a new Australian one earlier this week. All the best with this goal. Hope bribery wins out!

  9. Wonderful project for this month…light winter blues. Good luck with it and getting Cole to pose for the final photo shoot!
