July Rust Monthly Color Block 2020

On the first of each month, Jen at Patterns By Jen releases a new and different block in her monthly color block sew-along.  For 2020, she is taking her inspiration from birds.  July’s bird is the robin and the color inspiration is rust.  We have crossed the halfway point in this year’s color blocks and this is the first time we’ve used black as a background color.  That seems to enhance each individual color and let them shine.

Rust Robin Influence

2020 Monthly Colors

We selected the Crayola Kaleidoscope collection to use for this year’s sew-along.  This photo below really shows the secondary tone-on-tone fabric off nicely.

Sue had all the pieces prepped for me in no time at all and sewing ensued.

Rust Robin Domination

Lots and lots of half-square triangles (HSTs) give this block its charm, and we love every bit of it.

We are enjoying all of this season’s color blocks in spite of the bird inspiration.  After our bathroom vent invasion of the birds last month, they’re not top of our list. ~smile~  It’s not too late to make your own July rust block with the free pattern on Jen’s website.  Seven blocks and you’ll be caught up!

Join us each Tuesday for our hosted linky party called To-Do Tuesday.  Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link above or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to.  Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on.  We would love to see them!

I really do love that fabric line you are using. Please remind me what that is! And the back as the background really makes the color pop! Sorry about your bird invasion. Our attic gets invaded with squirrels at time…ugh! This block is very similar to Old Maid’s Puzzle. One of my favorite blocks!
