A Big Boy Bed Quilt An August OMG
Our sweet boy, Dominic, will be three (3!!!) in the first week of September. Boy how time flies – it seems it was just yesterday he was stealing my heart in the hospital by grasping my finger. The pattern, I Love Dirt, was picked up in 2018 and the Grunge-ish backing was acquired over time as well. This big boy bed quilt has been in the works just about since his birth. The month, all those thoughts will compile into one big boy finished quilt for him!
Big Appliqué of Trucks
This project has landed a few times on the weekly To-Do listings. Since there is a lot of appliqué involved in each of the 15 blocks, that took about two weeks. Here, you can see the reverse side of a dump truck (my favorite block) along with one of the many wheels under the needle.
Big Boy Borders
It didn’t take long before we had the quilt top complete with 15 different blocks plus cornerstones and sashing. We took this photo and then wondered if borders might be needed?
Yes, indeed. They will finish off the piece quite nicely and add just a bit more to the width and length.
A Big Boy Quilt OMG
This month this quilt will be our focus and our August OMG project. We will add the borders, layer, quilt, and add a binding to complete the big boy bed quilt for our sweet boy. I will be linking this up on Patty’s Elm Street Quilts linky party that opened on the first.
Join us each Tuesday for our hosted linky party called To-Do Tuesday. Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link above or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to. Oh be still my heart! I’m sure Dominic will love his big boy quilt as much as I do. Perfect for a little man. 😉
Great blocks. Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck with your project.
I was sold by the pattern title alone: I Love Dirt! You’ve already done the hard part with all that applique — looking forward to seeing you finish it up this month!
How adorable!!! He will love it. But you know, you’re going to have to include a real toy truck with it!
A terrific quilt for one awesome three-year-old boy! I remember when our son was young – he was into every “digger” there was – we even had a film about real-life diggers that he must have watched 100s of times. Well done. A lovely result and one that will be treasured for years to come!
All the best with this finish up, yes I was just thinking today of all the appliqué you’d have had to do on this quilt top. Especially as you enlarged the top. I really look forward to seeing the finish. Hope Dominic loves it.
What a great quilt for your beloved big boy! I love it!
Wow, what an awesome quilt! I bet he takes longer to fall asleep the first couple of nights with it on his bed! However, I bet he’ll head off to bed wihtout a fuss knowing he’s got his ‘wheels’ waiting!
nothing beats a big boy quilt. Our grandson is nearly 3 too , I can’t believe where the time goes
Hi Roseanne! That’s a LOT of applique!!! And it looks wonderful! Bright and cheerful! It will be a perfect “big boy” quilt! I’m sure that Dominic will love it!!!
