January Snowman Table Runner Finished

Success!  We were able to complete the January Snowman table runner.  In my last update on the January table runner, before Christmas, I shared that we shortened the length of the runner.  In doing so, we neglected to adjust the outside border blocks.  Oops!

In our first assembly step, Sue cut the background blocks and sashing strips for me to piece together.  I did so, and next started appliquéing the wonky border blocks with small pieces of multicolored fabric.  Once that was complete, it was time to start appliquéing each snowman:

The final assembly step involved sewing the wonky border blocks together.  That is when our dilemma was discovered.  I had way too many wonkies because we eliminated one snowman from the original pattern.  We added a smaller plain block to each long side.  It probably wouldn’t be noticed at all but I decided to add a few appliqued stars.

Completed Snowman Table Runner

Here is our finished table runner.  I elected to quilt this with a quick straight stitch using my walking foot.  In the interest of getting this complete near the beginning of January, I thought that would be the quickest.

Snowman 1

This was a selection by the Runner Aways Club.  I haven’t heard if the other two members have completed their snowmen or not, but I am hoping this will encourage them!

Snowman 2

This is how I filled the small gap piece of black fabric that we added to make the wonky border fit.  Just a little row of stars using one of the special stitches on my sewing machine.

Our first finish for 2018! ~smile~

      Hi Kate,
Oh, thanks so much! They really do look happy and we haven’t had a lot of snow so I don’t mind them sitting out. I am ready for spring though . . . even though it’s three months away. ~smile~ Roseanne

Thank you so much for you visit and comment! I am really happy with the way it turned out . . . and it was all material from stash so that makes it free, too! ~smile~ Roseanne

These little snowmen are winning me over to the snow side! HAHA! Preeti said they look like they are up to no good with that big ‘ole grin, and I have to agree. ~smile~ Roseanne

  3. I think the table runner turned out awesome. Nobody will ever be the wiser that something was changed. Besides that just means you made it your own. 🙂

I am sure that these snowmen are up to no good. With smiles that wide, I am sure they are plotting some thing wild.

      Hi Preeti,
You know it! Especially that one on the end with the green band on his hat . . . he’s the ring leader for sure. ~smile~ Roseanne

      Hi Alison,
Oh, I’ll bet those mini quilts are great! I always say I’m going to make some mini quilts to brighten up my sewing room, and to easily switch out. Maybe 2018 will be the year they actually get made. ~smile~ Roseanne

      Hi Kate,
I am happy that it is on the island, looking very happy. It replaced the September apples . . . we didn’t even put a Christmas one out. Good grief! ~smile~ Roseanne

  8. Congrats on the first finish, and a cute one at that. I had to smile when I read Vicki’s comment and your response, since I was thinking “Vicki would like these snowmen” as I read your post. I have snowman envy. 🙂

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Wendy,
Me too about the snowman envy! She always makes such cute ones, too! No wonder they sell so well on Etsy and at the craft fairs – who could resist them?! ~smile~ Roseanne

I really like the way you added the stars to the “extra” black fabric in the border – looks like you planned it that way!! Cute snowmen! Congrats on such an early finish!!

    • Roseanne says:

Hi! That was purely hmm, what stitch does my machine make without me thinking about it too much?! I wanted a snowflake but some may look like stars, right?! ~smile~ Roseanne

First finish is always the funnest especially when it’s quick! And it’s early enough to still use it this year!

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Shannon,
Woot woot! Although I would happily put it away for next year . . . if it meant no snow. ~smile~ Roseanne

  11. Vicki in MN says:

Yeah, congrats on the finish-iI am sure you feel fantastic at having it done. You can still enjoy using it a while too;) It’s such a fun runner!

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Vicki,
I thought of you the whole time I was sewing it. You are the QUEEN of snowmen and table runners in my mind. Yes . . . it can be out for another couple of months but I draw the line mid-March or so. It is time then to think about baseball, etc. ~smile~ Roseanne
