International Sisters Came Visiting With Blessings

Round about the middle of August, Preeti of Sweet Preeti Quilts shared a post about her International Sisters blocks and two quilts she made using that block.  I have been drawn to this block since she’s shared it back in 2018 but I hadn’t acted on it.  Preeti had six sisters leftover after her two quilts and she asked if anyone wanted to give them a new home.  With great feeling, I raised my hand and we are now in possession of these beautiful IS blocks (link directly to tutorial for block).

Giving International Sisters a Voice

So many conflicts and discord have been happening right here near our home.  Riots, looting, purposely set fires, and protests.  Similar to the story that Preeti shared, not taking action not only adds fuel to the fire but it implies that we are unseeing and uncaring.  Not meaning to lecture but rather to share that sometimes silence is taken as agreement or acquiescing. Not only did Preeti send the six Sister blocks but also some fabrics for additional siblings.

International Sister Sibling Fabrics

You’ll enjoy seeing all the variety of additional fabrics Preeti sent.  We will have fun digging through our stash to find fun backgrounds as well as for the hands and face.  What you can’t see very well in these pictures are the sparkles on the fabrics! Spiffy!

If you checked out the tutorial link of Preeti’s, you’ll see that sometimes she used a dark background on her test blocks.  The darker background highlighted both the sister as well as her headdress and gown. It is quite striking, don’t you think? We need to make a second version focusing on that.

The next step after we get a few of these 10-inch blocks made is to decide where to donate the finished quilt. A few options have presented themselves but I think the choice will be clear once we cross the finish line.

  1. I am planning on doing a few too, maybe with our group, but I have two others to finish before I get there. Although, I am occasionally bagging things to sew, and maybe this would be a good one.

  2. What I liked best was your being ‘drawn’ to this block and all it represents…your recipient will feel that sense within the folds of the completed quilt.
    peace, friend.

Hello Roseanne, Such an incredible block! I went and read the blog post and then went to Pinterest and was blown away by each site that I visited. Every creation of this block is such an array of beautiful fabrics showing a unity of International Sisters. An amazingly perfect name for this block/quilt. I am glad that you shared this delightful block with us and it has made my to do list for sure. I definitely look forward to seeing your posts on this quilt all the way to the finish line! Thank you for sharing another fantastic project. Have a splendid day!

I’ve wanted to make some since first seeing hers too and now she has the mini ones those are calling too! I’m glad her six have a good temporary home with you two and I know the quilt will let you know it’s final home once you are working on it and nearing its finish.

I’ve got the tutorial bookmarked. I won’t be making this quilt right away but I’m thinking this would be another wonderful quilt to make and donate to the relief sale auction. I think it would be a top seller!

I’m looking forward to seeing your blocks progress and yes, the correct recipient of the quilt will present themselves at the correct time. Preeti’s quilts were beautiful and your quilt will be too. Happy stitching!
