Color of the Month Block February Connection

Something new we’re doing this year is a color of the month block.  We are joining in with Jen at Patterns By Jen for this monthly challenge.

2019 color challenge

The color of the month for February is pink.  I love that Jen has shared all of the colors by month at the start of the challenge.  Her inspiration this month carnations, which make me think of my mom.  She was a huge fan of carnations.  I’ve tried to grow them to no avail.  This block like all of the blocks will finish at 12 inches.

Our Color Block

The pattern for the current month is shared by Jen, at no cost.  Thank you very much, Jen.  We are using the same low volume background fabric that we introduced with the January block.

The February block features four hourglass mini blocks.  We had a little trouble trimming one of the four half-square triangles, so those points got lost a bit.  Oh well.  If anyone cares to notice once the whole quilt is together, they’ll be able to find some blunders.  I’d hate to disappoint them!  Here’s our January and February blocks together.

The free block is available until February 28, 2019, so if you are interested hop over now!  To see blocks made by other quilters, be sure to use the hashtag #2019monthlycolorchallenge on social media.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s blocks as the months progress, and to finish with a pretty quilt.  Next month’s color is navy blue.  I think that will look nice with the Sand dots, don’t you think?

Congrats on two years! Pretty blocks too!

  3. I like the vivid colors you are using, and I think the next color, navy, will look awesome with the two blocks you’ve made so far. Take care, Mary.

These colors are gorgeous. I can’t wait to see the navy with them. How sweet that the block patterns are free. And you really MUST try the Sue Daley Quilt in a Day hst square up ruler. You trim them BEFORE you press them open! I would’t dare tackle hst with out it!

Hello Roseanne, Your Hourglass block is lovely! I agree with your Mom, Carnations are spectacular flowers. Also, like you, I have tried to no avail to grow them. It has been a few years though since my last attempt, should we have a try again this year? Pink has never been one of my favorite colors, yet my fabric shelves have such pretty varieties that would make a beautiful Hourglass quilt. Another quilt pattern I have never tried, except for one block. LOL. Thank you for always sharing your fabulous quilt blocks! I truly do enjoy them! Have a wonderful day!
