We’re Making Prairie Point Ornaments

Sometime before Christmas I stumbled on another blogger making some ornaments.  Unfortunately, I do not recall who that was but they really drew me in.  Not enough to throw caution to the wind and start mass producing ornaments for last year.  However, I knew we would be making quite a few for 2019!  I shared the Prairie Point Ornament tutorial with Sue, who jumped on board.

Prairie Point Vision

We envisioned a Christmas tree filled with ornaments.  Not just any ornaments but with an NFL-theme.  Originally, we thought Sue’s nephew, William, would be all on board for a tree like this.  He informed us he wasn’t even having a Christmas tree!  That changed drastically when he got married though.  HAHA!  Of yes, he now has TWO trees.  Anyway, the Indianapolis Colt traditional ornament I received led the charge for this whole project.  Soon, this project evolved into making these ornaments for Dominic.

Our Prototype

We pretty much followed the pattern for the first attempt.  The ability to be able to use a charm pack is appealing.  However, NFL football fabric isn’t readily available in charm packs.  I ordered a whole bunch of different teams when I ordered the Dr. Seuss fabrics.  Here is our nearly completed ornament, just waiting for a cord hanger and the center button to hide all the fabric ends.  We found these cute football buttons but some are a bit small.  We thought about using twine for the hanger but it unravels and frays so easily that we’re going for a snazzier look.

You can see the cute baseball buttons, too.  Those are for the Brewers and Cubs fabric that might have slipped into my checkout cart.  Maybe.

I made half of dozen of these before Christmas. They were a bear by the time I got to the last 4 triangles. I hope you have more luck than I did.

  10. I have often used that glittery ribbon – either round or flat for ornaments – if you are into a little shine. Think the gold would be lovely with the packers ornaments. Any Patriots ornaments gonna be in the Etsy shop?

I too had seen these ornaments just before Christmas. Didn’t time to make any though.

  12. How about some thin satin ribbon for hangers? Anyway, cute project, and one that you can work on throughout the year, right?

  13. those are so cute Roseanne! I love the NFL theme!
