We’re Joining Plus Playtime QAL

Sandra of mmm Quilts is hosting a QAL and we are going to play along.  I know, I know – I said I wasn’t going to join another QAL.  I lied.  This one isn’t a mystery, and the pattern is a freebie from Modern by the Yard ezine #7.  I have been wanting to make a plus sign quilt and here is my chance.

Playtime Plus

Sue would tell you I am a PIA and always adding projects to the list.  Guilty as charged but what can you do?  Love me and keep me as I am.  But enough groveling about adding a new project to our list of many worthy ones.

Plus Playtime Details

Sandra gives great detailed instructions along with all the cutting details.  Since this is a QAL, the steps are drawn out over several weeks.  We are just at the selecting fabric stage, and I am happy to report that I have done so!  Woot woot!  Here is the timeframe for the rest of the QAL:

  • May 1 post for Step 1 about Fabric Requirements and Tips (link above)
  • The May 8 post for Step 2 regarding Cutting
  • May 22 post for Step 3 regarding Row 1 construction
  • The May 29 post for Step 4 about Row 2 construction
  • June 5 post for Step 5 about Row 3 construction
  • July 5 post about the Finished Quilt Parade and the Linky opens

I am 100% sure that steps 2 through 5 will include tips and tricks from Sandra, and even from others participating.

Fabric Choice

Are you wondering and dying to know what fabric we are going to use for this fabulous quilt?!?

Hashtag

Here is the Hashtag line by Riley Blake, in all of its glorious colors.  We actually have several jelly rolls, a charm pack and now some yardage in this line.  I guess we like it – we like it a lot!  Rather than follow the pattern exactly, we are choosing to use one of the jelly rolls.  The pattern calls for 3.5″ size pieces and we will substitute 2.5″ instead.  We think the colors will look fabulous and no one will really care about the finished size.  Our two complimentary colors will be the palest yellow and the navy – both pictured above at the bottom of row 2 and second from the top in row 3.

The next step is to start cutting on May 8th.  We should easily have the yardage in house by then.  I am going to link this post to Sandra’s since it reflects our fabric choice and acknowledges that we are indeed playing along.  Would you like to join in too?  Sandra has lots of great sponsors who are giving away some fabulous prizes.  Plus, so to speak, you will have a fabulous quilt to enjoy by the beginning of July!  Come play with us!

Sandra’s qal are so inviting, how can you not? I think it will be about the third link up before I get to join in, but better late than never. I have enjoyed reading your blog posts. Enjoy the rest of the hop!

I’m planning to make Amy Ellis’s Comfort Quilt, which is mostly plus signs in two sizes. Were it not for that, I’d have gone for this one!

  4. Oh I LIKE the idea of using the navy and the yellow as the two backgrounds! This is going to be amazing, and I bet you’ll finish it ahead of schedule….

  7. I laughed out loud when I ready you said you weren’t going to join another QAL. That is one goal I can never meet, there are so many great QALs that are always just way too tempting! I am always adding projects to the list too! I love your fabric choice, can’t wait to see it come together. I wish I could join in too but I’m just not sure I have the time! We’ll see 🙂

I’m out too because I finally got all caught up on custom orders and I think I need a wee break. But I like your fabrics!

I’m setting this one out, I’m getting my gratification from just finishing already started quilts. You should see my list for quilts to make in 2019!

I love your fabric choices! I am still on the fence about joining since I have so much to do already. However I like your idea of making it smaller!! Have you figured out what size yours will end up?

  11. Good morning Roseanne — I’m a sucker for plus quilts! I may join you two for this one!
