Tutorial – Triangle Quilt Free Pattern

I know I share a LOT of star quilts, because I am drawn to them and they are so darn cute.  Today I share a tutorial for a Triangle Quilt from Peta at She Quilts a Lot.  Peta shares a .pdf on her website of all the details on how to make it.  This pattern is fat quarter friendly, and it uses a 60 degree ruler for the triangles.

Triangle Quilt

Peta shares some great techniques to quickly cut out your triangles, and she also shares a link to a couple of triangle-cutting tutorials that look great.  I think it’s about time we step up and make a triangle quilt!  Of course there are great specialty rulers out there, and I hear Accuquilt has a fabulous die cutter.  We would probably use our regular 6.5″ ruler that has the 60 degree markings on it.  (I say that quite cavalierly because it is Sue’s job for cutting!)

When I first stumbled upon Peta’s gorgeous quilt, I didn’t even notice the stars!  I know, what?!!  I saw all the pretty little white triangles surrounding – what are they surrounding?  Oh yeah, stars.  Then I was even more drawn to it – and the fabrics she chose.  The colors . . . all coordinated and muted yet not.

Triangle layout snippet

Here’s a little snippet from Peta’s layout, which shows how easy it would be to make this any size you’d like.  I remember learning about equilateral triangles in high school, and never in a million years thought I would be using that math now, just a year or two later (!!), when making a quilt.

Triangle quilting

One more shot of the loveliness.  This one shows how pretty it looks after quilting with plenty of swirls.  We have several fat quarter bundles that could easily be made into a few lap size or a baby triangle quilt.  This one IS going on our list, and is a contender for the sew along! ~smile~

Also really nice and tempting. I’ll have to see if I have a 60 triangle, because I wouldn’t make it without one … and I’m still going with #1. I wonder about this and leader enders, though. =)

  2. When are you going to make this one? 🙂

  3. What a beautiful quilt. And good luck to all with making it. As much as I love star quilts, I don’t think I’m up to the triangles- sadly.

Hello Roseanne; What a lovely and challenging quilt! I hope that you have a great time accomplishing it. I have far to many UFO’s and am getting ready to start a Double Wedding Ring Queen sized quilt, so I will put this great project way down at the bottom of my list. LOL. I hope that you post updates on your progress! Roseanne, I have a question that hopefully you can help with. My name was selected as the winner of the 6 month prescription for the magazine. Yet, I have not received any contact information in an email even after leaving a comment on several of the main blogs. I am just puzzled, maybe they do not need anything but my email. Do you know who I could ask? Thank you for any help at all!

  5. This one is a beauty! I wish I had seen it before I made my star quilt for next weeks blog hop. I am drawn to star quilts too❤️❤️

I for one would join this QAL because I have been wanting to tackle a triangle quilt for some time now. And I might actually finish this one…

I noticed the stars and then had to look again to see the white! Imagine reversing the colors. Cool.
