To-Do Tuesday #14 & Monday Musing

Two of our friends host a weekly linky party. Brenda at Songbird Designs has a Monday linky party called Monday Musings. Our friend Carol at Quilt Schmidt hosts To-Do Tuesday with a linky party as well. We will share our weekly updates on both of their websites.

To-Do for last week:

  1. Work on some hexagon toppers for our Etsy shop
  2. Something else, maybe?!
  3. Two limit list for a stress-free week

To-Do #1

I’m back to doing some appliqué. We’re making a Halloween table topper for Andrea. It will encompass Frankenstein, a witch, Dracula, and a mummy. Sue has all of the pieces ready for me to get busy on some background fabric.

Once I get them all appliqued, we’ll create a four-patch topper or even possibly a wall hanging. I’m guessing there will be some sashing between the blocks and possibly a border depending on the finished size requirements. This piece uses the same models that we featured in our hexagon toppers from last year.

Those two still aren’t quilted! Maybe they will be soon, either on my DSM or Carol’s longarm. These are going in the Etsy shop (I think unless someone else calls dibs).

To-Do #2

Nothing else was worked on mostly because there just wasn’t much extra time. We had an early-Spring snowstorm on Saturday leaving us with 9″. I decided to buy a snowblower because we have had a hard time finding someone reliable to plow for us. Bright and early Saturday morning we were at a local shop for a new blower. Three hours later (!!) with the help of our neighbors, our driveway and sidewalk were clear. We enjoyed another trip to the shop because the blades were not installed correctly. We also had to pick up gasoline and an extension cord. Wouldn’t you think something with an “electric start” would provide a cord? Not so much. Thankfully, we were back inside with time to regroup and rejuvenate before three of our littles came to visit. Lots of fun and laughter were had that evening!

To-Do for the week ahead:

  1. Work on some hexagon toppers or runners for our Etsy shop
  2. Something else?!
  3. Two for a low-stress limit!

Extra Future To-Do!

Our friend, Sandra from mmmQuilts is hosting her yearly quilt-along. This year it’s called Rainbow Neighbourhood and it uses her pattern of the same name. If you click on the button above, it will take you to her landing page with all the details about the QAL. Sandra is running a special on the pattern from now until April 3rd with 25% off. I picked up her pattern when it first came out back in December. Now I’ll have to buckle down and decide just what we’re making. I really want to make a bench pillow . . . and Sue loves a good house quilt . . . so we’ll see where we land. Care to join us?

That Halloween Topper is going to be so creepy in the best possible way!

  2. Whatever that Halloween quilt becomes it will be awesome. Wow that was a lot of snow and my word what a saga with the snow blower. I never heard of them but then I don’t get snow either!

The snowblower…it is a love/hate relationship! Ours is a very long gravel driveway. The gravel messes with the tines, and poor Hubby is always having to repair, but we’ve shoveled the whole thing by hand before, and we just ain’t as young as we used to be! The table toppers are fun! 🙂

  4. Chriskntis says:

Hubster keeps threatening to buy a snowblower, but we just haven’t had the winters you’ve had, so we’re still blowerless! Sweet plans for the spooks!

  5. A snowblower is the only way to go, Roseanne! So sorry to hear that there were a few glitches in getting it working, though. Your Halloween blocks for Andrea are adorable, and those hexagon toppers, too! Love the green swirly fabric!

  6. It is crazy how: 1. you have to buy parts like an à la carte restaurant these days and 2. weird the weather is. On the weather front, however, it isn’t surprising and is only going to get worse because of all the damage we are doing to our beloved precious planet. Adorable Halloween table toppers! I bet they’ll go fast. Frankenstein’s face fabric is a Benartex – I used a wheat-yellow in my ‘Lilacs’ quilt a few years ago. (cough) yep that’s another pattern that was in McCall’s and which I should be writing up and releasing… THANK YOU for the shout-out about my QAL and for joining in and for coding the graphic! You’re the best. 🙂

So sorry about the 9″ of snow. We bought cell phones this summer….they don’t come with charging cords!! I thought March might go out like a lamb, but apparently that is not to be the case as we had a weather update this AM with snow/rain showers through Sat. I think starting now on those table toppers for Halloween is a great idea and it does look like a low stress activity because you aren’t contending with an imminent holiday! Hope you have a great week. Oh, finished 2 Irish Chain baby quilt tops last week. Hugs my friend. :>)

  8. Cheree Hull says:

Look at you getting the jump on Halloween projects! I heard there was snow up there! I’d say I was jealous but I think I’m finally ready for spring. Heading off to check out the QAL now!

  9. “We enjoyed another trip to the shop …” You are so subtle, Roseanne! HA! Glad your treks out in the snow finally resulted in obtaining the additional necessary items you went out to purchase the first time around. Geesh.
Funny how all we see on the news is the blizzards, etc in the midwest (like your part of it) yet, our daughter & son-in-law in Lansing, MI are experiencing minimal snow dustings. Always have to remind myself of perspective in generalizations of area weather reports! Hope you had a cuppa hot cocoa after that 3 hour snow blowing chore!
    🙂

  10. Wendy says:

Nine inches! I sure hope that’s the last of the snow for you – it’s certainly been a winter, hasn’t it. Wise move on the snowblower, despite the glitches. Those toppers are fun!

  11. Karla says:

I’m glad you got the snow blower to work! I’m sad that you got 9 inches of snow! The Halloween pieces shown are cute!

  12. Vicki in MN says:

Yay, for you getting snow blower, I am sure you will get lots of use out of it! Geesh another 9″ for you, while you were getting hammered with that we had sunshine. Such weird weather and with all the destruction in MS.
