To-Do #1
Last week I shared the info that Addison Brooke joined us on Friday, January 4th. Just as for her brother, we make a birth announcement with all the details to hang in her room. We couldn’t get started on it until she was born though, obviously. We set about finishing up this sweet hanging using the same fabrics as were used in her quilt, George the giraffe. I guess I will need to share all the photos in a separate post as I’m sure you want to see it hanging in her room. Right?!
To-Do #2
I can almost sew nine-patch blocks in my sleep. It was always our go-to block and quilt for ages and ages. We know exactly how many strips we need to yield a baby quilt. Plus, now that we’ve made one Evening Star using leftover nine-patch blocks, I would like to make another. Towards that end, I make at least one extra block to add to the small stack from other quilts. Now Spring Wave just needs to have the rows sewn together for a quilt top. Oh yeah, and a border added!
To-Do #3
I have a good friend named Mary, and I raised my hand to do some quilting for her. Not because I’m such a great quilter, or that I have oodles of free time with nothing to do. Whatever the reason, I hate to hear that some quilter friends have stacks of to-be-quilted pieces. Mary sent me a few pictures of her beautiful piece which is about 36″ square, and we worked out the details of a quilting plan, etc. Practice drawings on my acrylic board were sent along with a thread color suggestion to Mary. We had a plan. I can hardly wait to get started. It crossed my mind to feign sick because I could probably get it all quilted in one day. Very, very soon you will see it all finished and on its way back to Mary.
To-Do #4
Appliquéing is a task that I can do at any time, and I love that about this project. Have five minutes? Go do a little appliquéing on the Quiet Book. Our sweet boy, Dominic, is a very textually motivated boy. Toward that end we’d like to give him a few more experiences. He is master of flushing the toilet, and sweeping shampoo bottles into the tub. Smart boy that he is, he can even switch on/off GG’s lights because he can climb up on the couch now. Why not focus on zippers, snaps, shoe laces and other useful things?!
January OMG
Our January goal with Patty at Elm Street Quilts is to get Spring Wave made into a quilt top and layered for hand quilting by Sue.
To-Do for the week of January 14th through 20th
- Sew the rows together for Spring Wave
- Make the Monthly Color Challenge block for January
- Gather the Harley Davidson t-shirts for a commission quilt
- Make a game plan for Dr Seuss #1-3 Etsy quilts

Congratulations on the newest sweet addition to the family! I really love the colors in Spring Wave.
Roseanne, I am so honored to have my quilt top shown and talked about in your post! I’m really excited about our collaboration. Now, I have an ignorant question to ask you about the Quiet Book? Is that all hand appliqued? I’ve only done a tiny bit of machine applique and no hand applique at all, so obviously I’m clueless! Have a great day, Mary.
I hope you enjoy the new baby in the family! I love your quilt. I just started a new quilt. I’m just sort of figuring it out as I go along.
Looks like you are rolling along with those plans! Can’t wait to see the Wave all ready for quilting. So cute.
Hello Roseanne, My oh My you two are busy as always! Which is always part of the fun with quilting! I can not wait to see the finished results of the projects you are talking about today! I hope that you have a fabulous day!
Great progress on all fronts. I like the way that quilting design is looking. I have two to get going on, well actually three – how does that happen? The birth announcement is so lovely. I bet there are a hundred ideas out there for things for the busy book…you will all have so much fun sewing and playing with it.
Love the colors in spring wave! It will be a sweet baby quilt! You have been busy!
You are clipping right along with projects this year. I enjoy seeing what you have up for work each week. So, the flipping the light switch is getting a little old?? Haha! I remember those days . . .
I love the colors in Mary’s quilt — it’s good of you to help her out! Looks like you and Sue have another busy week!
I had to go back and refresh my memory of your evening star quilt, Oh yes I loved that one. Love seeing your progress each week.
