Have A Ball Quilt Top – April OMG Met
We set our April One Monthly Goal (OMG) to complete the quilt top for the Have A Ball quilt for Colt. Since all of the 30 balls needed are finished, it seems like an easy target to meet. We also decided to get it layered and ready for quilting. We’ll share this goal completion at Patty’s linky party on Elm Street Quilts.
Have A Ball Inspiration
We sought out inspiration on Pinterest for the quilt, and in no time at all, we found just what we wanted to do. With just a few modifications it would be perfect for our great-nephew, Colt.
We liked the look of the alternating balls but we wanted to add golf, too. With five featured sports balls, we decided that six blocks of each, for a total of 30 appliqué blocks would work. We headed to the Fat Quarter Shop for the fabrics. and found a nifty grass-colored fabric.
Have A Ball Appliqué and Layout
The appliquéing of the 30 ball blocks went fairly quickly and it wasn’t long before we had to work out the layout design. Sue and I had fun earlier this month debating and deciding on the layout for the quilt. Once we had the five-by-six layout and I snapped a picture. Of course, we immediately made a swap as the concentration of baseballs in the left corner was too intense.
We carefully picked up each row and added a row label for my sewing project. The completed quilt top was shared by mid-month, but that still didn’t complete our OMG task.
Have A Ball Quilt Top – OMG Met
Here is the quilt top, just hanging out so to speak. Waiting for us to make time to layer and prepare it for quilting. We did it all layered but I didn’t take a photo – it’s kind of boring seeing that it hangs off all the sides of our island! I think a crosshatch is the quilting design of choice, just to add more security for the appliquéd pieces. Our backing fabric choice is just PERFECT for Colt!
Once again, thank you to Patty at Elm Street Quilts for the linky party which helped move this project to the quilt top stage!

Can I buy the pattern for the sports quilt.
Wonderful job!! The layout would have driven me crazy as I am too AR to just let it be. I change things constantly trying to find the perfect mix. LOL

That’s looking great, Roseanne and Sue! I really like the different backgrounds you used for each set of balls. Perfect quilt for little Colt to grow with!
