Blue-Gray Jimmy John Quilt Finished

May I say THANK HEAVENS that the blue-gray quilt made using the Jimmy John pattern is finished.  It gave me fits halfway through the construction.  The first three panels went together like a dream, like greased butter.  Then panel four came along and nothing matched up.  It was too long and the seams didn’t line up vertically.  Huh.  How is that possible?

Blue-Gray Fourth Row Added:

So, we took out our ruler and tape measure and measured every single block.  All the same size except for one stinkin’ block that was 1/4″ bigger.  One block.  Right in the middle of the column naturally.  So Sue took the ripper and took off the ombre panel, took the blocks apart, trimmed the block by that darn 1/4″ and gave it back to me.  I put it all back together. Then pinned the H out of it before sewing it to the other three panel set and that did it.  Magically, we were back in business.  After a good month or so of mentally swearing at it every time I thought about it, it went together.  And the fifth panel, and the outside panels too!  It only needed a top and bottom border.  Boom. Done!

Sue emailed our friends at Corner to Corner.  Would they please find time to quilt this queen size quilt for us?  Pretty please?!!  Sue is off for the summer so she was able to deliver the quilt top, along with batting and a borrowed backing.  Borrowed because it was actually for her brother’s quilt.  We thought we had already purchased a backing for the blue-gray quilt but alas that was not the case.

Borrowed backing – meandering stitch

Here are the details for those of you who care.  Fabric is two Shibori jelly rolls, three yards of Ombre Graphite Grey both by Moda Fabrics but not available any longer (sorry), and for the border and binding Ori-Nui Neibi print from the Shibori line in a one yard cut.  The backing is Navy solid by Kona, and the batting is an 80/20 cotton blend.  It was quilted with So Fine 40# in Medium Gray.  Now to the good stuff . . . the quilt itself!

Here it is in all its glory with a meandering stitch, done by Corner to Corner Quilting Service:

This really shows off the gray ombre fabric.  Now to deliver it to the happy couple and get a photo of them with it.  I share their photo on Facebook.  Here it is on their bed: ~smile~

Too bad the quilt got sworn at so much, because it turned out beautifully.

      Hi Melanie!
It was all mentally – and I took a good break from it for a month before I tackled what exactly was wrong. Those little clippy things from Clover really saved the bell. The ensured that darn fourth row got added. LOL Thank you so much for visiting and your sweet comment! ~smile~ Roseanne

Hi Rose! I’m so happy to hear that – I hope you saw the free tutorial link. We added two extra panels in the center section from the original pattern. I would love to see what you do with your fabric! ~smile~ Roseanne
