What’s the Haps in the Third Quarter

My mom, God bless her soul, used to say things like she’s not hep on a subject.  This always made Sue and I smile.  You’re not hep, mom?!  Of course, Sue has her own fun expressions like what’s the haps, or her favorite Little Louie (or LL for short).  Little Louie Groovy is a character on the original Batman TV series.  Instead of saying groovy, Sue implies it by saying Little Louie, or LL.  I haven’t succumbed to saying any of these expressions yet myself, but I know it’s inevitable.  So what IS the haps for us in the third quarter?

Haps #1

We get to do some secret sewing for the first time!  Of course, I can’t tell you anything about it or . . . well, we’d let a friend down.  It has to be finished by the end of October or early November.  I’m excited about being a pattern tester!

Haps #2

Our PHD will be complete once we finish the last two UFOs.  Oh yes, I intend them to be wrapped up with a bow well before the end of the year.

Haps #3

We have two recently completed flimsies that need to be quilted.  First, the quilt for Luke which is a Christmas gift that needs to be layered and then quilted.  Second is the Rainy Days (spiral) quilt which is for no one special but will be quilted using a spiral pattern.

Haps #4 – Baby Girl & Sweet Boygiraffe

Since we have a new addition arriving before or shortly thereafter the new year, we have some special sewing to do.  With a theme of giraffes, we picked this picture of George the giraffe to be the focus of her baby quilt.  We’ll also do a birth announcement with George as well.

We can’t forget about our sweet boy though!  We’re making him a Quiet Book that Carol from Just Let Me Quilt shared as a tutorial.  It has all kinds of fun things for him to work on, like zippers, snaps, buttons, etc.

Haps #5

A purse for my sister-in-law.  She sent along a favorite purse that she would like us to replicate, so we’ll see how that goes.  We’ve never made a purse before but I would like to get that off our plate sooner than later, just so she can enjoy it!

Haps #6 – QALs

We will be wrapping up our own no-pressure sew along with an update on all the participants.  Our own Up From Here should be complete sometime during this quarter.  Also, Fireburst will wrap up by the end of the year with a quilt parade starting on January 1st.  Here is a reminder of one block from each project!

Haps #7

I am participating in Angela Walters next free-motion quilt along which teaches dot-to-dot quilting on a baby-sized quilt.  I ordered the kit from her/her shop along with Glide thread.  I’m looking forward to trying Glide – any tips you have would be appreciated.  Will I need to change my tension, etc.?  This was supposed to start on September 24th but now starts on October 1st with the release of the first video, so technically it has already started but it mostly happens during the third quarter.  The quilt along runs for six weeks.

Potential Haps #8

I think that’s a pretty good recap of our haps for the next three months.  Of course there will be a few more that will sneak in.  I hoping to participate in two blog hops if we are allowed/invited to.

We already have an idea for the pumpkin hop, and the virtual cookie exchange?!  Well that was just a blast last year, and I’d like to repeat the fun.

Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to.  Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on.  We would love to see them!

Holy cow Roseanne but you sure have a lot going on in the studio – kudos to you both! Love Glide thread – runs smoothly through the machine, and leaves little lint (which is probably more from the fabric and batting).

  2. You have some lovely projects on your Haps list. I love secret sewing, although at this time I’d love to do any sewing. I do like the look of your jigsaw quilt, that looks great fun.

Hello Roseanne and Sue, HOLLY HAPS! LOL. Have you started a new phrase with all that the two of you have going on. This is one of the reasons I really enjoy reading your blog and other blogs also. When you are sharing and having fun and your readers are communicating by sharing and having fun also. Keep up all the great quilting plans and accomplishments ladies, you two are smokin’ up the race track getting to the finish line on your UFO’s. Also with being great leaders on the Quilt A Long! I wish I could have joined in, but hopefully after the new year if you have another one. So much that I want to just chat about, but time does matter, but I do want to share a couple of tidbits with you. I read on another blog today…https://www.sewcanshe.com/blog/2018/9/25 I have a couple of purses to make on my Christmas list this year and when I read these tips, I knew they were going to help me out. So, hopefully they will help you or one of readers. The other tip I was going to share, I can not find right now. There are quite a few Free Applique Giraffe patterns on a variety of Blogs and Pinterest. I have one printed out and can not figure out where I hid it, so I would not forget it! HA HA HA….. I had best get going, have a marvelous time achieving all of your goals! I am very happily getting close to having my quilt finished. Will share as soon as I am! Hugs to you both!

Oh WOW!! Your haps list makes me tired just reading it. I’d be in a panic trying to do all that before the rest of the year! But, you know how much you can do, so I don’t need to worry, right? 🙂
    Happy Quilting! 🙂

What fun you are going to have this quarter, finishing so many things, hopping, and making things for babies! I like the giraffe idea, and I look forward to seeing exactly what you do with that. Your free-motion fabrics look great. I know you are both going to become fabulous FMQ quilters!

  7. Shannon Fleming says:

That is a very big list, but I know you can get a lot of stuff done between the two of you!

  8. Oh wow you two are hoppin’ With all these haps! Keeps you out of trouble though right? I’m especially excited to see the Plus quilt quilted and the giraffe baby quilt!

Oh my, you have lots of “haps” going on! Secret sewing is always fun, but it’s hard not to share what you’re up to…can’t wait to see what it is.

  10. You two amaze me! You’ve got sew much happening 🙂 Happy Wednesday!!

  11. Ok, so I thought maybe a Little Louie was a small version of “pop a Louie” but I was wrong. I’m sure that phrase dates me! Haha. At any rate, I can’t wait to find out who you are testing for and I’m sure you will enjoy that process. Yikes — an update from all the participants on the QAL from me, Miss Dragging My Feet? I’d better get going on that. I think I just figured out what to bring to work on this weekend at my SILs. You just HAPpen to have lots going on, but it all looks fun!

  12. Becky Haaland says:

You are BUSY!! LOL I’m sure those baby “surprises” will be adorable! I love making baby quilts. No grands yet but still fun.

  13. Jan Snell says:

We are all excited for you to have all those wonderful finishes so you can share them with us! I am doing the pumpkin blog hop also. I use glide all the time but it’s on the longarm so not sure any of it translates. But I use a looser top tension. Just be sure to make a test sandwich first.
