T&J Quilt – Eagle, Deer, Wolf, Bear – Oh My!

We finished the animal quilt!  It was a special request from Sue’s dad, complete with a hand-drawn layout suggestion.  This just made us ~smile~ and want to make it all the more.  T&J stands for Tom and Jeanette, and this animal quilt is “T” all the way. ~smile~  So we found this fabulous fabric and we started cutting:

T&J request

Tom made the drawing on an envelope and the special request.  Jeanette has been in on the fabric selections since we brought them home from a road trip.  She gave her approval up until the final push or the weekend it was complete.  So it will be a surprise to both of them.  Of course, they didn’t know how it was going to be quilted.

Quilt before quilting

Here is a look at the completed quilt top.  I think that first border does a good job of matching the background colors of each animal.  It kind of reminds me of the veins in granite.  We used the outside darkest border for the binding.

Here is how it looks after quilting.  I hope that Tom and Jeanette love it.  Lots and lots of love was stitched into it.

Our friends at Corner to Corner quilted this for us.  Sue chose a branch shape with a falling leaf.  I think it lends itself well to the theme of the quilt and the finished project shines because of the quilting.  Here is a closeup of the stitching:

And one last closeup on the background fabric:

Sue’s goal, which was to get this quilt finished before she had to start going back to school, was met.  Since she goes back the week of August 21st, I think we made it with barely any time to spare. ~smile~

This looks very nice, they will love it! I’m not into ‘nature’ quilts but I do like this one. Your fabrics really tie together well.

Hi Gretchen! Yeah, we’re not really into nature quilts either. We had absolutely nothing in our stash anywhere near this theme! But we were lucky to find it all in one shop, so that made it easier. ~smile~ Roseanne
