Emerald May 2020 Color Block
Emerald is our stunning color choice for the 2020 May Color Block. Thanks to Jen at PBJ (Patterns By Jen) for sharing her ideas and patterns with all for the third year. May’s color block is inspired by the bird, Budgerigar. The Audubon website tells me this about the budgerigar: “The little “Budgie,” native to Australia, is a very popular cagebird, so it was probably inevitable that some would escape and establish a wild colony in our area. The west coast of Florida has a sizeable population, and there are some elsewhere in Florida as well. Lone escapees may be seen almost anywhere in North America.“
Emerald Highlighted With Black
This month, Jen has shared instructions that are free until the 31st on her website. Sue cut all the needed fabric sizes for me and then I set to sewing.
It wasn’t long at all and it was time for the Bloc-Loc and a wee bit of trimming. I love the exactness of the Bloc-Loc and I also enjoy that little pile of trimmings.
Emerald Layout and Finish
I always follow the layout for the pieces before I begin sewing – I have made too many missteps in the past to not make the time for that!
Ooh-la-la, the little pinwheel in the center just warms my heart. The other pieces just look like little flags – a whole colorful quilt in this block would be gorgeous, I think.
Ta-da! One completed emerald May Color Block along with the other 2020 color blocks. This is going to be one colorful quilt by the end of the year!

Those blocks just seem to shimmer! Love the colors.
I am really crushing on that emerald fabric and I love it paired with black. Who’s fabric is that? Thank you for linking up to Put your foot down.
What striking blocks those are! Love the bright colours on black, and the perfect piecing too. Impressive.
Oh la la – That green block is an awesome addition to your others!! SO pretty!
A gem just like the emerald!
The colours just glow against the black! I need to do more black or navy as backgrounds.
Roseanne,
Every single month that you post one of these blocks, I fall further in love with the quilt to be!
Love it!
Ooh I love green and black combination. Picture a little black dress with emerald tear drop earrings…See that is how pretty your block is. But I love the other ones too. Hope you are staying safe and sane 🙂 When this is over we will party like there is no tomorrow 🙂
Striking! With all your other blocks too!
Oh these colours just make me smile. I can just imagine what the final quilt will be like with that wonderful black background. 😄
That is a pretty block, Roseanne! I agree that it is a really good idea to double check that your pieces and parts are oriented correctly before finishing up the block. (Ask me how I know, lol!) Looking forward to making mine now!
Your emerald block is looking good — all of your blocks look great together especially against the black background. It will be a beautiful quilt once finished!
You and Sue are on the ball, getting this block done so quickly on May 1st!! My goodness! Love the block and love using Blok Loc tools!! Beautiful block!
Your blocks are looking great! This will be one bright rainbow quilt!
This is going to be a stunning finished quilt for sure. A 21st century take on an Amish theme IMHO.
I haven’t even pulled my fabric for the block yet! You go! Nice looking block – and I’m liking your blocks all together. Will be a fun quilt!
very Amish looking – looks good
Can’t wait to see this quilt as a whole at the end of the year! 🙂
Look at you gals, all done with your block and it’s only May 1st! Happy May Day:)
