UFO and PHD Update – Going Backwards?

At the end of the year or start of this new year I joined Gail in her PHD challenge.  I committed to completing 12 UFO this year to earn my PHD.  Here it is just the beginning of January and I can happily check off item number one off my list.  Yippee skippy!

Dr Seuss Complete

With the completion of the Dr. Seuss quilt for Keri we now only have 11 items to complete.  I have begun work on item number six or the Grandma’s Kitchen blocks.  We decided to use all of the 10″ blocks and make a table runner from them.  The sashing between the five blocks has been added, and the lengthwise strips are awaiting their turn for attention.  Maybe the will receive some later this week – one can always hope.

While I am very happy to have one item complete out of 12, it seems like I have regressed a bit.

Sale

It seems that if I am asked if I would like to go fabric shopping, I am too weak to say NO.  Instead, I happily found my birthday gift card for Joann’s and met Carol for some casual browsing.  Did I mention that they had 60% off?  Also, she had an extra 20% off for her upcoming birthday.  AND, there really wasn’t any football on to watch plus there was that gift card from October that I really should use.  So, I picked up 14 – 2 yard cuts.  FOURTEEN!  ~sigh~

It was actually 15, but that really was needed.  I have to extended a sleepsack for our sweet baby boy – more on that later this week.  That was only a half-yard anyway – that hardly counts.  Oh, and there might be one more purchase that I decided we needed as well from MSQC.  It’s another kit . . . and it has stars!

Another Kit

I believe Sue said if I buy one more thing to add to her list . . . she didn’t complete the sentence, so I’m not sure what dire consequence will happen. ~roll my eyes~  I’m not sure but I am pretty darn confident I can survive whatever may come along.  I am not scared of her.  HAHAHA!

So, there may be a bit of a backslide going on here.  I can’t even say I promised to not buy anything more.  I do promise to not go to any quilt shops in the near future.  Also, I promise to delete all the MSQC daily emails so that I am not tempted. ~smile~

I just went fabric shopping with a friend between classes saturday. Lunch can only last so long and then what else are two quilting girls to do? Alas, she was very good and didn’t buy anything. But she was sure helpful when it came time to pick out fabric for me! Good thing I’m not keeping track of fabric stash this year!!!

I haven’t the courage to delete any of the MSQC daily emails, it’s brave of you to resist! Congrats on your first finish, and my, that gradations quilt kit looks SO gorgeous!

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Liz,
Well, I might OPEN the email and then delete it right away . . . technically. HAHA I mean, we can’t ignore an email can we?! That would be rude. ~smile~ Roseanne

  6. Great job on the Dr. Seuss quilt.
The graduations quilt looks like it will be a lot of fun.

      Hi Terry,
I know, I LOVE stars now that Peggy Cooper has gotten me hooked on them. What’s not to like?!! ~smile~ Roseanne

  7. Oh, but the shopping with a friend sounds like so much fun, and I’m sure you’ll use all that fabric (eventually). Haha! I haven’t been in a fabric store lately, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been in a virtual fabric store, ahem. I had to have those jelly rolls, and lo and behold, that quilt kit just jumped into my basket and stayed put. Some days are like that. Enjoy your new stash!

Nice haul-we are all weak when it comes to fabric aren’t we!!

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Vicki!
Weak. So weak I am. I don’t even like to work with flannel . . . but they were puppy paws . . . in cute colors. My sweet baby NEEDS that for sure. ~smile~ Roseanne
