Update on Olivia’s Quilt – All Complete
Early in this blog’s inception we took a road trip to Village Creek in Lodi, Wisconsin and found a model of a quilt that was so inspiring. Our friend, Carol, was especially inspired to make her great-niece a quilt for her bed. Here is the model from Village Creek:
In this model, the flowers are three dimensional. The center square of each flower is sewed down using two different fabric circles in different sizes. The top one is sewn on its edge, leaving about 1/2″ from the edge on the second circle unsown. That edge is then left to fray and stand away from the quilt top. It starts to fray right away, and gives the quilt an additional texture when it is washed.
Olivia’s Quilt is bigger than this model as well as incorporating and highlighting her favorite colors of pink and purple. The twin size quilt will look so nice on Olivia’s bed, and she will be able to use it for years as it is not babyish at all! Carol had the quilt top together in July except for the borders. We took pictures of how the border would look and well as those cute green cornerstones:
Carole added a nice wide purple border and did some quilting that was just about finished when she shared this update with us:
In this picture you can see the cable motif she made with one of her new rulers. The flower petals have a elongated loop in the middle, and she is also quilting in the ditch around each flower. The border has a wide wavy line stitched in the middle all around the quilt. Carol used a white thread to let the flowers shine. I also really love the binding that is made up from all the different fabrics used in the quilt. That binding looks really nice with the backing that is the same fabric as the purple border.

The only thing left to share is the quilt with it’s new owner, Olivia! Here is Olivia with her Aunt Carol:
Their celebration wasn’t complete without Olivia hugging her quilt, enjoying time with her cousin Adam (Carol’s son). Don’t they look so cute together? One final shot shows her snuggling under the quilt the next morning. How sweet is that?!
