Two-fer November OMG Table Runners Complete

This month we elected to go for a two-fer goal in our November one monthly goal. Patty at Elm Street Quilts hosts a monthly linky party to encourage the finishing of any project during the month. We are working on our third year of OMGing in succession. Our two-fer projects include a Snowman and an Alaska Postcard table runner.

One Two-Fer Snowman Table Runner

This title is a bit of a misnomer as it is actually the third version of the Snowman Table Runner. We made #1 for ourselves and then a second for Andrea, knowing that Nicole wanted her her island, too. While Andrea had no specific wishes other than it be similar to ours, Nicole really had specific colors in mind that she preferred. No problem-o!

This basics of the runner remain the same regardless of the fabrics chosen. The smiling face, the top hat, and the carrot nose are just necessary standards! Snowman Table Runner #3 has some lovely Buffalo plaid fabrics that are unmistakably Riley Blake. Ooh, the greens she chooses makes my heart swoon.

We actually wised up for this version and used a layer cake featuring a few fun red prints. There’s some sort of saying about too late smart . . . but at least we got there! We chose an unusual backing for Nicole’s snowmen but the fabric has really grown on me.

My thread choice this time is medium gray on top with off-white in the bobbin. The black binding acts as the perfect frame, too. Here’s ta-da two-fer #1.

Snowman #3

Second Two-Fer Runner

This Alaska Postcard table runner is rather special for us as the fabric postcards were procured on multiple shore excursions during a cruise.

We’ve gone on a number of cruises to Alaska and I may be ready to go back at the drop of anyone’s hat. All of the fabrics were purchased in various ports, especially the silk-screened dark blue batik with the Northern Lights represented.

A quilting design was chosen once the appliqué was finished. Out came the acrylic board and dry erase pen for a little speculation.

In the end, the crosshatch won again just because we like it. A pretty solid navy binding was added which looks pretty darn fab with this backing fabric, don’t you think?

Here’s the finished Alaska Postcard table runner quilted with a navy cotton thread on both sides. This will be gracing our island after the holidays!

I sure wish you could feel either one of these runner. They are nice and squishy fabulous. We are linking up with Patty on Elm Street Quilts.

But in the meantime, I need to follow your example and complete the beautiful projects started over the years. To have finished two is a win win. And the snowmen are wonderful not just for the holidays, but for all winter long. Did I say I love those postcards!?!

Both finishes are fantastic! I love snowmen so your snowman table runner would fit right in my house with my snowman collection! I have similar blocks to your Alaska blocks but for the National Parks we visited. They are special because they bring back so many memories! Still need to put those together!

  11. Angie Winter says:

  14. Your two tablerunners finished up perfectly, Roseanne! Those snowmen are just adorable! I like the quilting on your Alaska postcards runner, too. What a great memory of your trip there!

  15. Rochelle Summers says:

Two wonderful finishes (4 if you count the other two table runners!). The quilting on both looks great and the fabric is wonderful. You two outdo yourselves. Good luck with the Dec. OMG…I don’t know what you have left to complete! Quilting has always been my mental health therapy!

  16. Kudos to you for getting your two-fer done! They are both wonderful!

  17. I love them all and pleased for you to keep getting those projects done! My current OMG is waiting, a long complicated story but it should be done for the end of the month…which is fast approaching!

  18. Wonderful finishes, Roseanne and Sue! I’m glad you finished the Alaska quilt the way you wanted. It’s your quilt, so your terms – and it’s lovely! Happy Thanksgiving!

  19. “In the end, the crosshatch won again just because we like it.” And that’s the way it should be!!!! I’m still impressed with the fact of the Alaskan tourist guys marketing those very cool fabric postcards…those alone could entice an entire boatload of quilters to their ports!!!HA!
The snowman table topper you made me is going to be ontop of our coffeetable and under our new 4ft pre-lighted artificial tree this year. As you know, we were planning on being moved (yaydah-yahdah-yaydah) and it was going to inaugurate our new home this Christmas…instead it’s taking place and center helping to make the MMXX holiday season more festive&homey!
    (Thanks again!)

  20. Connie says:

Love the snowmen runner particularly…just can’t help smiling along with them…

  21. Brenda @ Songbird Designs says:

Great job!! Both your finishes are awesome! I love cross-hatch quilting too and use it often on smaller projects. I suppose I could do it on the longarm, it would just take a lot of rolling back and forth! LOL Now I do use it in custom blocks along with curved cross-hatching!

  22. Laura says:

The snowman table runners are adorable! The Alaska table runner is a great keepsake! I would also go back to Alaska in a heart beat! It is beautiful and magical! Maybe in my future, I could try the cruise. In my past, I went by train and plane. 🙂

  23. karenfae says:

we went on one cruise to Alaska and loved it – it would be the only cruise we would most likely ever go on again – I’m not really partial to water but love the NW and Alaska was great what we did see of it which was mostly tourist areas of course.

  24. Vicki in MN says:

Whoo hooo, for two finishes, good work. They look wonderful. How fun for you to have something new to look forward to using:)
