Two A.D.D. Quilters Means No Focus

Ugg.  I am bored with all our projects, and don’t feel like working on any of them.  Instead, I’m dabbling.  Sue is dabbling, too, hence the A.D.D. label for both of us.  This is how we spent last Saturday.

A.D.D. #1 a.k.a. Sue

  • Sue cut borders for a fall leaves quilt, and different ones for the endless Grandma’s Kitchen blocks
  • Then she started sewing a fabric book for Dominic
  • She cut me some pretty Iced Peach Kona binding for the receiving blankets and I sewed it on
  • Sue has been rearranging the t-shirt layout again.  I drew a new one on Excel

  • The dogsled table runner has been unearthed.  We do not have the matching fabric for a border.  Now what?  Borderless??

A.D.D. #2 a.k.a. Roseanne

  • I sewed the I Wish You A Merry blocks together.  Next on the agenda is how it is going to be quilted with all those buttons on the snowman in the top right corner?

IWYAM flimsy

  • Jigsaw has made it to six rows and is being set aside for a while.  I want to get the pattern in EQ8 before it is finished.

  • Although I’m tired of trimming blocks, there are leftover HSTs from Postcard that are awaiting attention for two pillow shams
  • Several already-layered-quilts awaiting quilting like Evening Star and Garden Gate
  • I have some really CUTE charm blocks for one more doll quilt but I feel uninspired
  • Rainy Day and Confetti jelly roll strips have been opened, unrolled and generally sorted for two 16-patch Framed 4-patch quilts.  We used this pattern to make this one last May with spiral quilting.

Usually boredom doesn’t strike both of us at the same time.  I am certain this too shall pass.  The question is how long will it take?!  Maybe we should do a project exchange thingy – you send me something you’re bored with and take one of our boring projects.

THis is why I always have a few different crafts on the go so when I get bored of quilting, yes it does happen, I can switch to cross stitch or knitting. I do this until I get the urge to quilt again xxx

  2. Roseanne, Oh NO!!! The dreaded quilters boredom. Sometimes we push ourselves so hard that we don’t realize how hard we have worked and how exhausted it has made us. Thankfully the dreaded boredom doesn’t last long. You have a huge array of beautiful projects waiting for your attention. They will wait for you to return. 😊

I get it! I’m tired of working (quilting) on the same quilt and doing the SAME quilting the next day, and again on the next … Have fun starting something new (and remember for your PHD, it has to be completed this year! 🙂 ) And remember … we quilt for fun and therapy … not for boredom! 🙂

Loving the jigsaw quilt. I’d just close up the sewing room and go do something entirely different.

Just make something new and fun! Nothing big or fancy, just something creative. I plan to do a mini with an umbrella and quilt in rain showers. Just need to find an umbrella block.

Sounds like you need a vacation! How bout you take a day to do something besides quilting? I know that really helps me when I get to feeling like I don’t want to sew.

  7. You mean you don’t have Quilters ADD all the time?

Maybe you should give yourself permission to do one new ‘small’ thing as a bribe and then finish an old thing or 2. Might just help with the boredom. I agree with Ellen-how about just doing a simple stipple and just let the blocks and fabric shine. I think it is cabin fever-I was at that point last week, tired of things and slowed down and this week I am feeling more energy, even with all the new white stuff on the ground 7-8″ of it.

  9. Oh, I’m so with you on the bored with current projects theme. I did finish my Postcard top yesterday. Phew. I have a few tops I’d be happy to exchange, since I’m pretty sure I may not ever finish them. Except then you’d see my quirky work on them (they are oldies). Haha.

Hi girls! I just wanted to give you a pointer referring to the merry christmas quilt. Take buttons and any other embellishments off before quilting. Those types of things should always be added when everything else is done.😉
