Tutorial – Rhythm in Blues Quilt
A friend and fellow blogger, Dawn from Quilting By Dawn shared a tutorial for her beautiful quilt she named Rhythm in Blues. I asked her if it would be okay for us to share this beauty on our blog, and she agreed. I am thrilled to share it with you today!
Blues Rhythm
Above is the link to Dawn’s website where she shares her tutorial, but let me share some of the highlights. This quilt finishes at approximately 46.5″ x 56″ and as the name suggests, many different shades of blues are used. The basic theme beyond the blue shades is the alternating isosceles trapezoid shape. (Now that’s a phrase I haven’t said since high school!) With the light blues spaced strategically throughout the quilt it reminds me of our recent cruise. Although the water was calm, the constant small waves breaking and their slightly lighter color are represented in her quilt.
Rhythm of Blues Details
This quilt pattern is very jelly roll friendly, as 2.5″ strips are used. I would think that fat quarters may also work since the strips are cut into shorter lengths.
Dawn added a lighter blue border before finishing off with a darker blue binding. For her backing she chose another indigo batik which shines on its own. I know this would be another quilt that my blue-loving-sister would really enjoy. Since she has been sharing her Regatta quilt with my brother-in-law maybe another quilt for their home should be in the works.

Thanks Roseanne for sharing my quilt and tutorial! I’ve been out of town and almost missed it. Trying now to catch up on reading blogs, etc.
Great jelly roll pattern Very unique!
It has a glowing look to it. Quite attractive, thanks for drawing it to my attention. I wonder if it would work in other colors, too. I do like her lighter border surrounding everything and fencing it in.
Hello Roseanne; Such a beautiful array of blues are in this quilt. I have a feeling that it would be a lot of fun choosing the fabrics in any color and then playing with the layout until you were secure with the choice. Thank you for sharing and have a great day!
That is a pretty quilt, and it does remind me of water! When will you have yours done?? 🙂
