Tutorial – Meadow Prism Quilt
I found this pretty quilt on the Hoffman Fabrics Website. It is called Meadow Prism by Karen Cunagin and the pattern is available as a free download by clicking the link. The quilt finishes at 54″ x 66″ and is labeled as easy. Here is the absolute best part to me:
This fabric is called Spring. Is that not just the most perfect name?! I am not really a flower fan, but I would totally be on board with using this in a quilt. Unfortunately this fabric is no longer available but I am going to hunt for a good replacement.
Here is the first three rows, showing four blocks in each row:
You start with a 6.5″ block of the focus fabric followed by a three-strip block comprised of 2.5″ X 6.5″ strips sewn together. The three-strip block is sewn by alternating between a horizontal or vertical placement. The entire layout is consists of 9 blocks by 11 blocks. Here are couple more fabrics you might substitute as an alternative to Spring mentioned and pictured above:
Meadow Fabric Alternatives:
Offered by Benartex Fabrics, the black fabric is called Wildflower Meadow Toss Black, and the second one is Wildflowers Cream. I am intrigued by the Wildflower Meadow Toss Black, mainly because it is well outside of our normal wheelhouse. I think the size/scale of the flowers is good – they should represent well in both the 6.5″ size as well as the 2.5″ strip. Perhaps <gasp> I would not make a baby quilt from this pattern either. I know, did I just say that?!
This finishes off at 54″ x 66″. You could easily add a few more blocks to make it bigger or knock off a few for a baby size quilt.

Love the fabric!!!
Hi Darlene! Thanks – which do you prefer? The black or white background? ~smile~ Roseanne
I love the Wildflower Meadows fabric with the black background. I see many possibilities for that fabric.
Hi Peggy! I agree! I didn’t think I would be able to find a replacement for the Spring fabric . . . but this might just work well. Or for some other pattern. ~smile~ Roseanne
