To-Do Tuesday Linky #15 & Weekly Progress Update

Join us for the 15th linky party post and the 135th edition of the weekly to-do list.  Thanks to everyone who linked up with us last week.

To-Do for the week of November 12th through 18th:

  1. Continue working on the hexagon snowman topper – √ done
  2. Find the pattern for the Fall batik fabrics from Gail – √ done
  3. Make a microwave cozy as a secret Santa gift – √ 1/2 done

To-Do #1

Our friend Vicki, from Vicki’s Crafts and Quilting, shared a tutorial for a Hexagon Snowman Table Topper back in July.  We both loved the idea of this project and decided we’re going to make a version of the cute topper.  I even saved a picture of the project to my desktop labeled, “Next squirrel project – Vicki”.  Last week we figured out how to cut the 60-degree triangles without a special triangle ruler.  This week we found a snowflake template as well as the circle needed for the snowman’s head.  Sue started cutting out a snowflake but accidentally severed one of the flake limbs . . . back to the drawing board so to speak.

To-Do #2

Another friend, Sandra from mmm Quilts gave us the inspiration for the Fall-colored batik fabrics we won from Quilting Gail.  Thanks to the suggestion from yet another quilt blogger friend, Kathleen, who led me down the squirrel path for this project.  If you check out Sandra’s pattern/tutorial you’ll quickly see that it isn’t a difficult pattern but it does call for a small bit of paper piecing.  Nice tonal differences between the fabrics, don’t you think?

Six of the ten blocks were pieced together this weekend . . . plus we tried a few different layouts.

Freefall four

We kind of like the secondary pattern that is formed when you point the leaves outward – I drew on the square that is formed in the photo above.  If we go with this layout I think we only need eight blocks along with some sashing between the two sets of four.  So many choices and decisions to make.

To-Do #3

For Andrea’s baby shower for our sweet boy, Dominic, we made some microwave cozies.  Janice, Sue’s sister, asked us to make some for her to give as a secret Santa gift because she likes them.  Sure!  So we pulled out our notes and thought we would whip one up for her to give.  Then we discovered that we had no Wrap ‘n’ Zap to use as for the batting.  Here are the fabrics that were picked out for the project . . . as soon as we get the appropriate microwavable batting.

It was news to me that we are making more than one!

You have another full month ahead of you I see. I’ve been cutting 1″ x 1″ squares and 1″ x 1.5″ squares the last 2 nights. Even with my custom die it seems to be taking foreevveerr. Fortunately the weekend is quickly approaching and i should be able to knock the other thousands out pretty quick. I’m still working on a qal idea too. Thank you for the linky party. Oh, I love the leaf blocks.

Sue probably thought it was just as easy to make 4 cozies as it is to make one!! Your leaves are gorgeous.
