To-Do Tuesday #70 and Weekly List Update

Join us today for the 70th linky party post and the 190th weekly To-Do Tuesday list and update. We had 27 friends link up last week! Gladys Taber wrote, “Contentment is a list with half of it crossed off.” There are only three linky parties for us to host in 2020 – can you believe that?!

To-Do December 1st through 7th:

  1. Decide on the December OMG – √ Done
  2. Sew the rows of the light blue blocks into a quilt top – √ Done
  3. Hopefully, receive the fabrics for 4-Patch Plus – √ Done

To-Do #1 and #2

Not only did we select our December OMG (one monthly goal) project but we shared a post with all the details last Friday. The light-blue baby quilt made with batik fabric has been chosen to wrap up 2020 as our last goal. The rows have been sewn together and a border added but I guess we forgot to take a photo.

I even started quilting this baby quilt over the weekend but I had thread issues. Rethreading the machine, a new needle, and lowering the ruler foot were tried to no avail. Large areas of skipped stitches – it’s annoying but I sure would welcome any suggestions to correct it.

Finally, I just set the whole project aside. Thankfully, to-do #3 was able to provide a nice diversion.

To-Do #3

These pretty 1930 reproduction fabrics just arrived in the knick of time from Missouri Star Quilt Company. We decided we’re going to make our own version of Pinwheels Patches that we’re calling 4-Patch Plus. Of course, to make the pinwheels we need to make some HSTs (half-square triangles).

To-Do Extra

Also gracing our design wall in the aftermath of along weekend is this Pink Herringbone table runner to-be. While the HSTs had been sewn a few weeks ago, they finally found themselves trimmed and place into a pleasing layout. This is another project that needs to be finished as a fourth-quarter goal.

December OMG:

This month, we will be working on the light-blue batik baby quilt as we mentioned above. That includes finding a backing, layering, and quilting once all the rows were sewn together. We did link up with Patty at Elm Street Quilts and we thank her for the linky party and inspiration.

To-Do December 1st through 7th:

  1. Start cutting and sewing 4-Patch Plus
  2. Work on the Pink Herringbone runner
  3. Keep the OMG project in timeout until it decides to cooperate

  • Here is the linkup and just a few easy rules to follow:
  • Share your post or Instagram photo in the linky tool
  • Don’t share a link to your own linky party or giveaway or promotion for your newest pattern release
  • Please point your readers back here with a text link or use the button from the right sidebar

I can’t help with the thread issues. I am still learning all the ins and outs myself!

  2. quiltinggail says:

Good luck with your list!!! I hate to tell you this, but often when I have skipped stitches and I’ve done what you have (including changing the needle twice), my machine needed to see the doctor for a tune-up. I hope that’s not the case!

  3. lenneamw says:

For skipped stitches, try going up a needle size. If you are using your ruler foot, another solution is to slightly lower the height of the foot above the fabric. It’s a great quilt!

  4. That extra To-Do herringbone table runner to be is just lovely. I want to make a herringbone quilt someday. I’ve saved a couple cool patterns that you may see some day!

  5. I hate when that happens. Try this site: https://freemotionproject.com/2009/09/skipping-stitches.html.
Change size of needle, worked for me the other day. OR try without ruler foot to get it right. Feed dogs down or up? Good luck…hope the bad sew-jo has left the machine!

  6. Hey there, Roseanne! I don’t usually like 1930s reproduction fabrics…but these look like the old fashioned “true” calicoes that I remember used to be in all mainstream fabric stores in the 1970s!!!!!
In other words…they look fun! Plus – the colors! Oh, just in time for the New (Better?) Year, too!
Skipped stitches – OMG what a huge pain…if it were me – it’d be time to brave COVID and get my machine to the certified Bernina repairshop, even if it meant time away from sewing on it.
    Good luck with that.

    Hi,
All your quilts are beautiful. Really like the pretty fabric you got. I can see a great
quilt coming from this. Have a great day!

  8. Susan says:

I like that blue baby quilt – looks great!

  9. Rochelle Summers says:

Ouch! Skipped stitches rally bum me out. Did you wind a new bobbin? Sometimes I have to go up a size on the needle. Is it working when you are doing piecing. Oh, read a post a while back that said batting has a right and wrong side. When the wrong side is facing up, there may be more missed stitches. First time I knew batting had right/wrong side.

  10. Sharon says:

That batik baby quilt! Love batiks! And 30s fabric, can’t go wrong with those. As for the skipped threads, I hate with that happens. I’ve had some loops show up when using cones of thread. Anyway, did you clean out the bobbin case and rethread? Rethread everything, and make sure the thread is tight into the tension disks. Oh, and is the bobbin wound tightly? Sometimes, for what ever reason my bobbin winder doesn’t wind correctly. The loose thread on the bobbin can be a problem. Rewind. It is a good idea to walk away for a while. Hope you figure it out when you get back to it.

  11. Jocelyn Thurston says:

I hate when there are stitch issues at the machine. Usually for me it’s about the tension which can be fiddly to correct. Hope you sort it soon.
Meanwhile always lots to see here of the quilty fashion!!

  12. Cheree Hull says:

Oh I love that selection of 30’s fabrics and I’m excited to see that one evolve! I’m not sure what to do about the skipped stitches. Did you clean out your machine really well too? It’s a bad time to have to take a machine in for tuning for sure. (is there ever a good time? this is why my long arm has never made it in!)

  13. Brenda @ Songbird Designs says:

I love those 30’s reproduction fabrics! They make me smile! I hope you get your skipped stitches issue worked out. You’ve done everything I can think of that might be the problem. On my longarm it’s usually something has come unplugged, but not sure on the domestic. Have fun with your list this week!

  14. karenfae says:

love your fat quarter bundle – sometimes these are so hard to pass up when on sale. no help on sewing machine problems I’m never good at that

  15. I have no help to give for the skipped stitches other than what you have tried. That FQ bundle is lovely, and I’m looking forward to seeing the quilt you are making with it. You have some pretty projects in the works!

  16. You have some really pretty projects to work on this week, Roseanne! I’m sorry you’re having the quilting issues on your blue batik quilt, after all that great progress. Hope you get it figured out!

  17. Vicki in MN says:

Did you clean your machine, it could be some lint stuck in the wrong place. The other thing is are you using the same thread top and bottom? I am in LOVE with your new pack of 30’s! They will make a very cute quilt. I had to go check out that pattern, I hadn’t seen it before. I like it too.

  18. Laura says:

Argh! Skipped stitches! I wish I knew…I’ve tried all the usual fixes, too, and switched machines in frustration. Sheesh!

Love the new fabrics! The happy pinwheel project is perfect for showcasing them! 🙂

  19. nanamickie says:

Skipped stitches–UGH! My deepest sympathies! I love that pinwheel four patch quilt! It looks so cheerful! Very pretty table runner and great use of the HSTs!!! Have a wonderful day and stay safe dear friends!

  20. Tish says:

I LOVE that 1930’s bundle! It will look adorable in pinwheels. I always had skipped stitches when I used my ruler foot on my sewing machine. Usually lowering the foot worked to fix. Maybe the quilt just needs the time out and a few deep breaths.

  21. The baby quilt is going to be lovely. Hope you can get your thread issues all worked out quickly. Love the table runner design. Good luck with your to dos for this week.

  22. Gretchen says:

I think the blue baby quilt is so cute! Love the stack of fat quarters for the next project. Sorry, I have no idea what to do with the missed stitches. Hope you can figure it out ok. Happy stitching!

  23. Hi Roseanne. That’s a pretty inspiring list this week. Hope you get the stitching issue sorted out. 😉 Carol

  24. Frédérique says:

Sorry for your skipped stitches, I had the same issue and changing the needle was my solution. But you said you already change it, so… Lovely blue blocks, and these reproduction fabrics are beautiful!
