To-Do Tuesday #263 Weekly Update

Join us today for the 263rd weekly To-Do Tuesday list and update. Linda hosts the To-Do Tuesday linky party and we thank you so much, Linda!

Another day, another gun shooting . . . this post seems so trivial. Who cares about quilting when six more families are missing their loved ones? It could have been our parade – I drive through Highland Park, Illinois nearly daily. I have coworkers and friends who live there. We have to get a grip on guns – an assault rifle at a parade – what could possibly be the motive??? The white 22-year-old coward is hiding – residents are sheltering in place – neighboring communities are also sheltering in place. This is flippin’ nuts. He was shooting from the rooftops – what, are you afraid of the school marching band not playing your song??

To-Do for the week of June 28th through July 4th:

  1. Second annual doll buggy parade – √ Done – kinda
  2. Back to the apple quilt√ Done
  3. NO more – stress-free motto adherence!

To-Do #1

I can’t even write about our parade. All of our children and adults are safe and slept in their own beds last night. Unlike the dozens who were injured or murdered at their parade.

To-Do #2

This was written on Sunday, while I still believed there was something to celebrate in this country. Apple quilt quilting . . . did it happen?? Oh my goodness, yes it did. (Oh my goodness is Dominic’s favorite saying, and I may have picked it up after hearing it so many times.) I even added Violet Adelaine’s name somewhere on the quilt top. I ended up quilting the name backward again (just like Alice’s Pumpkin quilt).

This gem is now in Grandmother Rosalie’s hands to add the final binding. I wonder what color she will choose. What would your choice be after seeing the complete quilt top? The plan is for Grandmother Rosalie to deliver this in person to Violet in August.

To-Do for the week of July 5th through 11th:

  1. Who knows? I may not be working unless the gunman is found. I’ll shelter in place in Wisconsin because driving to the neighboring community at 4:45 am doesn’t make the best sense.
  2. Two limit list for another stress-free week! Seriously – that is out the flippin’ window. We have an active shooter drill scheduled at the end of the week. Perfect timing, huh?! We’ll be attending six funerals. I AM MIFFED and would like to get my hands on that idiot shooter myself.

This whole event dumbfounds me. No place feels safe and our rights don’t feel safe. I am glad you are all safe and wish you good luck on your week’s work!

  2. Roseanne my heart is aching for the families that have suffered such horrendous losses, for the communities that have to deal with the fear, lockdowns and aftermath, and for your country which seems to be in such turmoil. Who would have ever thought that Active Shooter Drills would become a normal part of school curriculum? No parent or community should ever have to bury a child, or a teacher. Schools are supposed to be safe havens of learning. They should stop showing the photos of these murderers. Let them be charged and convicted with no notoriety. Hugs, my dear friend.

It is scary, but we need to remember that a risk free life isn’t promised to us, any of us could be taken out by numerous factors. Our Governor ordered the flags to be flown at half mast because of the tragedy, totally ignoring that city of Indianapolis violence killed many and injured dozens more. 2 kids were shot in a bounce house at a party! It is personal rot, drugs, and lack of respect for human life that is at the root of this. Until we address these issue it won’t get better. As to your life, you don’t stop living because of someone else’s tragedy. You offer help, prayers, support, and just keep being the best you can be. You become more diligent in who you allow into the sphere of your loved ones. And make sure that your littles grow up to respect all life and continue your family’s legacy of love and hope. Hugs!

  4. I don’t know how you can stand the constant threats of shootings, and when it comes so close to home it really sinks in. I didn’t realise they hadn’t caught the shooter although I see Wendy says above they have now. I only watch the news sometimes, I can’t cope with all that’s wrong in our world. I love your quilting on the apple quilt, awesome work. Hard to know what the binding will be, if it were me it would be the darker blue that’s in the quilt here and there. Take care and sending a big hug.

  5. Gail Sheppard says:

It is so very sad about the shootings. They are happening all over the place. Needless, senseless and yet they affect so many families, friends, neighbours … I’m getting so that I no longer want to watch the news unless it’s the weather or a “good news” story.
Thankfully, we have our quilting community where we can talk about cheerful apple quilts!
HUGS, HUGS, HUGS!!! And hold those little ones close! Hugs again!

  6. Vicki in MN says:

Oh gosh I hope they did catch the shooter. So scary for you and everyone in that area. There has just been so much bad stuff that it can get hard to remember the good, but there are a lot of good people in this world and we have to hang onto that thought. Hugs to you and yours my friend. Your apple quilt is so delicious looking, good work getting that quilted!

  7. Hon, I know what you mean about the seemingly fluff-ness/trivial-ness of focusing/reporting on our (he)art during icky, oppressive, life-threatening, sad times. And yet, its expression speaks directly to oneself, others and I think is a state of prayer only God understands & hears.
Your summing up of your daily routine now that Highlands Park has occurred is one we all must learn in some form, not by choice, but for survival & solidarity with each other…while trying to keep things as ‘normal’ as possible for the preservation of the innocence that is childhood….sigh.
    hugs

  8. Rochelle Summers says:

Roseanne, I am so sorry that we have been reduced to such senseless violence in this country. The pain is like rippling water and spreads out to the who community/country. Those drills must be painful in light of all the shootings this year. Meanwhile that apple quilt is beautiful and the closeups of the quilting are lovely. Lots of hugs are sent your way.

  9. I also did not realize that you were so close to Highland Park. These shootings are a threat everywhere…I do not, nor ever will, understand why. No amount of frustration can explain or excuse it. So much pain.

I love the apple quilt! 🙂

  10. Mary says:

How awful about that parade shooting near where you work. I totally get that writing about quilting is rather trivial when we think of all the senseless heartbreak. But remember that our quilts do give people comfort and sometimes joy, and for me, it helps calm my spirit. Hugs to you, my friend, Mary.

  11. Wendy Tuma says:

I didn’t realize you were so close to Highland Park, Roseanne. I’m so very sorry for the families who lost loved ones. I understand they have caught the shooter, thank goodness. Sending you a hug or two. Your apple quilt looks so nice!
