Thursday – Things I Love #6

Here are a couple of the things I love for the week.  Now that I am more aware, these weekly posts aren’t difficult to write at all.  I have so many loves to note, I have to edit them and pick and choose.  Lee Anna blogs at Not Afraid of Color  and she posts a celebration all of her ‘likes’ for the week on Thursday.  You may want to join us as there is always room for more people sharing their likes.  Read about her likes and then check out those of our friends – they will make you ~smile~.  It is rather addictive looking for all the positives once you get started.

Love #1

I love birthday cake and cupcakes.  They don’t even have to be ‘birthday’ per se – anniversary, wedding, shower cakes or cupcakes are equally delicious to me.  My parents were HUGE lovers of ice cream.  The lick-the-bowl-clean or at the very least, scrape-it-clean kind of lovers.  Ice cream is okay.  I would cross the street for some but not as quickly as cake.  How about you – are you a cake lover?  Oh, and in case you were wondering what flavor – I’ve never met a cake I didn’t like.  HAHA!  Not only do I love birthday CAKE but also CARDS, especially when they’re the very first one from a certain young great-nephew.  Look at those little toes . . . OMG!  P.S. he l.o.v.e.d the whole green paint experience.  ~giggle~

Love #2

I am the end of the The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls.  It is really good, but not my usual mystery/lawyer genre and I’m going to be sorry to finish it.  I think I mentioned that I also have Addicted to Scraps by Bonnie Hunter.  I’m beginning to think I’m not a scraps kind of quilter.  I love seeing other people’s scrap quilt but I have yet to see a pattern that I like for them.  They all look too busy or something – I can’t quite put my finger on it.  Nothing screamed you-HAVE-to-make-this from her book. ~shrug~  And speaking of books, Janet Evanovich is releasing Hardcore Twenty-Four in her Stephanie Plum series on November 14th. Yippee!

Love #3

Going to the movies!  We rarely go see movies in the movie theatre – James Bond always draws us out, as does Mission Impossible and a few select others.  It was fun to see the new Beauty and the Beast movie last year with some additional back story included.  This weekend we will be going to see Murder on the Orient Express.  The trailers look fun, I love those recliner seats, and theatre popcorn!!  That’s a real treat. ~smile~

Love #4

This package of goodies recently arrived in the mail from Brooke at  Silly Mama Quilts.  Brooke has a random give-away twice a week for those that comment on her blog, and I happened to win one week!  She sent some really cool fabric to update my stash, some Moda pattern cards for several different blocks, and these really cute zipper pulls for my jacket . . . but would love to know their designed purpose if it is other than a pull.  If you would let me know by leaving a comment?!

Love #5

One last big-time love of Dominic.  He was watching football with Dad.  Apparently something very exciting or tense was ensuing based on their complete absorption in the game.  He decided this is the only way he will sit now – he wants to see what’s going on.  HAHA – this boy cracks me up and makes me count my blessings.

Huzzah for ice cream. 🙂 I’m intrigued by Murder on the Orient Express even though Poirot doesn’t look like what I’m used to. We may actually go see it on the big screen (I can’t remember the last time we went out to the movies). I hope you enjoy.

      Hi!
I am so looking forward to it. In fact, thank you for the reminder because I’m suppose to be buying the tickets today and I completely forgot. We’re going to the 1:15pm showing. I can hardly wait for the popcorn. ~smile~ Roseanne

  2. Colette says:

I like cake, but my favorite is frozen custard. Sweet baby. Like your post.

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Colette,
Ooooh, frozen custard! That really IS better than ice cream, and with cake! HAHA Thank you so much for visiting and leaving a sweet comment. I appreciate it very much. ~smile~ Roseanne

  3. I found your rendition of your favorites very entertaining. You put so much emotion in your posts. Your enthusiasm makes them so pleasant to read. Some of my favorites are dark chocolate, dark chocolate, and dark chocolate! I think I’ve made my point. 😂

  4. Kate says:

If it has sugar in it, I like it. Way tooooo much. You have some fun likes for this week.

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Kate,
That just might be it – s.u.g.a.r. Hmm, I’m a sugar addict?! Thanks for visiting and pointing that out for me – I’ve been in denial. HAHA ~smile~ Roseanne

I have an idea for a scrappy quilt you may like. Hunters star works well scrappy, just use only 2 fabrics (preferably solids for background) and the points all scrappy. I have a paper piece pattern for it that is much easier than what you find in the tutorials. I just finished one (non scrappy version) and I love it.
Let me know if you want the pattern.

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Ellen,
Thanks so much – I’ll be sure to let you know. Sue’s still not talked into the Hunter’s Star (why???) but the scrappy version might just push her over that edge. ~smile~ Roseanne

oh my gosh… that baby! great pic with daddy. I reach for the scrap bins when I want variety in a real quilt, or art quilt for me. Not exactly a scrap quilt like bonnie’s which I admire but don’t make, but use of scraps. I’d say that might make me a scrap quilter but sideways. Love red velvet cake, tre-leches cake, coconut cake, dense grainy cakes with home made icing, chocolate cake from Madeleines, cheesecake, just not those store bought greasy icing cakes. Those are no go but home made cakes? Gimeeee.

forgot to say, I got a drink called wedding cake once on a visit to New Orleans. It was a bar that made drinks to taste like anything you asked for. It did taste like a wedding cake! LeeAnna

      • Roseanne says:

Ooh, yummy! I wonder if it was a martini – not that it matters. Should I ever go into a bar AND order a drink – it could be a restaurant – I’ll try one. ~smile~ Roseanne

    • Roseanne says:

LeeAnna – yeah, I guess I do not like those icky cakes. I do draw the line somewhere . . . and I won’t have a second piece if it’s not worth it! HAHA Scraps – yeah, I collect them but haven’t used too many yet other than in the ABC wall hangings. And that baby – he has me wrapped around his little toe. ~smile~ Roseanne

  7. Shannon Fleming says:

I love going to the movie theater too and that rarely happens. I love the popcorn and the surround sound!

    • Roseanne says:

Hi Shannon! Oooh, that popcorn. Soooo good. And the recliner seats! What are you going to see? Maybe I need to go see that, too! ~smile~ Roseanne

  8. cheriec12 says:

I also read Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum Series and have been waiting for the next book. I’m glad you let me know to expect it soon. Also, Happy Birthday, mine was Monday.

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Cherie,
Happy Belated Birthday!!! I hope you had a fabulous day. I had the best day ever. Ahh, Stephanie – don’t you just love Lula and Grandma M? Are you on team Joe or Ranger? I’m mostly Ranger . . . ~smile~ Roseanne

      • cheriec12 says:

They are certainly some characters. I find that Ranger takes better care of her, maybe because he has more resources to keep giving her cars.

      • Roseanne says:

Cherie – agreed. I think she’ll end up with Joe, but Ranger is the dark and dangerous type. And sexy! ~smile~ Roseanne

  9. I enjoy cake, but have rarely met a cookie I didn’t like! 🙂 Congratulations on your win, too – that is always fun. I would use those zipper pulls on a pouch – they add a little fun to it!

    • Roseanne says:

      Hi Diann,
I love most cookies, too! I would never say no to a cookie. I may not like it, and wouldn’t go for a second one but I’ll always give it a try! Those zipper pulls need something special, for sure! ~smile~ Roseanne

  10. Ellen Ison says:

Zipper pulls are a nice touch for small projects like tote bags or the fabric tool bags that are so popular now (for carrying your quilting tools an supplies when you go somewhere to quilt with a group).

  11. Vicki in MN says:

Hey I got an email saying you posted today, LOL Lucky you winning from Brooke-I did once too:) So this is your Birthday week? If so Happy Birthday!!

    • Roseanne says:

Hi Vicki! Woohoo – the email finally worked. My birthday was October 30th, and I got his first birthday card. I feel totally special. I think I should frame that, don’t you think?!! ~smile~ Roseanne

  12. Janice Kennedy says:

My absolute favorite food is Wedding Cake!!!! Not weird wedding cake, the traditional kind, white with the amaretto flavored buttercream icing. I’ve left so many weddings lately disappointed because people want to get creative and stuff, but NO!!!! Don’t mess with tradition, it’s the best. My husband actually ordered my birthday cake this year as a wedding cake flavored cake because he’s the best!!!

    • Roseanne says:

Hi Janice! I totally understand that. My mom ALWAYS brought home a piece of cake from wedding receptions all wrapped in a napkin. It was so delicious the next day. I think that has stuck with me! Thank you so much for visiting and commenting! I appreciate it very much. ~smile~ Roseanne

    • Roseanne says:

      Janice,
LeeAnna said in a comment that she had a drink that was called wedding cake and that it really tasted like one. Hmm, I think we should both try that drink, don’t you?!! Yummy. ~smile~ Roseanne
