Spring Umbrella Runner Complete

After much ado, our Spring Umbrella table runner is finished and on the island.  You may have heard that our Elna sewing machine went on the fritz right at the start of a planned mega quilting extravaganza day.  Since those plans were set aside, so too did the Spring Umbrella runner.  After a few other diversions, my attention was given completely to finishing off these cute umbrellas.

A Year in the Making Umbrella

This sweet little project was started last May.  Technically before that, as it was discussed and it was determined to be the Runner Away’s next project.  As a side note, it seems the Runner Away’s group has fallen apart, unfortunately.  Loads and loads of appliqué ensued mostly in the month of April.  As I approached the very last umbrelly I noticed that part of the design was already appliquéd.  What?!!  And not in the black thread used in the rest of the piece but in a light thread color – I’m guessing it is my go-to Aurifil light yellow thread.  You might also enjoy the closeup of the cross hatch design used for quilting.

Umbrella oops

Woot woot – I was finished much quicker than I thought I would be.  Oh, and the missing tulip flower showed up when I moved my broken Ellie.  A cute red tulip it would have been but alas the headless stem had been already appliquéd.  But like I said in the last appliqué post, just tulip stems are realistic especially after about a week of enjoying them.

An Umbrella Reveal

Ta-da!  Here is the finished Spring Umbrella runner enjoying its new home on our kitchen island.  Boy it’s hard to get a picture of a long table runner!

Umbrella finish

While it may be a bit long in the tooth as far as how long it took to complete, it does fit our weather situation perfectly.  SO much rain has been falling that I may need to kayak into work but our island is staying dry under this cute umbrella runner.  Go look at a fun video with our friend’s puppy Brandy enjoying sunshine shared on yesterday’s Love post!  You will feel just how excited she is to be outside finally on a day with sunshine and not cooped up in the house. ~smile~

RoseAnne, this table runner may have taken a while to make, but like all good things, it was worth the wait! And I just LOVE that you embraced the flowerless stem and what you did with the found tulip! Pure artistic genius! Happy weekend friend!

It may have taken a while to complete, but it was worth the wait. The colors and fabrics are a perfect fit for a rainy day!

  8. It looks great. So funny about the missing tulip. I commend you for redoing the appliqué; not sure I would have. We had sun yesterday, rain today, but sun for the weekend. We may be out of this ridiculous pattern. Your table runner is adorable and just perfect – congrats on the finish.

Nice job! So true, about the headless tulips. I was remarking to my husband the other day that it would be funny to do a serious applique project but instead of perfect, beautiful flowers, there would be some dead ones, some with ugly black spots, little aphids and ants all over them… 😉

  10. Roseanne, that is so cute! I love the bright colors and those little boots are adorable! It’s always a good feeling to finish up a long-term project and put it to use, isn’t it?

  11. I can’t remember where you and Sue are located, Roseanne. I’m in New England, and our spring has been very wet. So. Much. Rain. Like, so much rain that taking any quilty pictures has been rough. You have the right idea with this finish, though: Embrace the rain! Stay inside and finish up those WIPs! Congratulations on checking this beauty off the list!

  14. Yay for the finish! It looks great, and so appropriate for today when our forecast is rain! Enjoy your weekend!
