Shock – Another Commission Quilt
A few weeks ago I shared our finished Princess quilt. It was an experimental quilt for us as it was the first time we tried using the embroidery sewing machine for a bit of the quilting. Is also was the first time trying out the laser light to minimize marking – which works like a dream, thank you Laura!! Since the birth of our little great-nephew, we knew he wasn’t going to be wrapped in a princess quilt. I listed the quilt on Etsy in our shop and never gave it another thought. Then wham-o; a commission request out of nowhere.
Model for Commission:
At some point, I would like to beef up our offerings in our shop. So far that hasn’t happened – mostly because someone (Sue) likes each finished quilt too much to part with it. Yes, I just threw my bestie under the bus . . . but come on. How many ‘spare’ quilts do we need? There are charities that would love them, etc. That is why I ended up buying five charm packs of the same princess material! I really wanted to make a quilt to list on Etsy to sell. And we did! Not only one, but two, if we were willing to do a special order? Yes, we would be happy and thrilled to do a special order commission.
That was Sunday night! What?! The Packers had lost earlier in the day, I had five articles still to write, Sue was working on homework, and suddenly we needed to get going on a quilt. It has to be mailed and received in less than two weeks. No problem. Eek – what am I saying?! Thankfully, it is a very easy quilt to make. I had the quilt top together Monday night. Phew. Now just the layering, quilting and binding are left.
This second quilt will not be exactly like the first one. Some of the fabric has been discontinued so it is impossible to replicate. Would that be alright with our customer? Yes! These quilts are for her twin granddaughters, and she welcomes the diversity. Of course, we could have matched the blocks in the center of the quilt top by matching the layout exactly. We did not do that. The layout of the quilt top is different, the borders are different and the backing fabric is different. Here are the first of the pink hearts and a peek at the backing:
Commission Sneak Peak:
I would love to put both quilts in the mail on Monday. xx fingers crossed. ~smile~ I ran completely out of thread last night after refilling the bobbin – really?! Sue is picking up more today for me. We will keep plugging away!

Roseanne, how wonderful to not only receive the commission work but to be able to make your customer happy! ❤️😊
Cindy,
It is a great feeling! I’m up working on it already – too many threads to bury. ~smile~ Roseanne
Such a cute quilt. I am not surprised someone grabbed it up.
Peggy – thanks! You are always so kind. You just never know, right?! ~smile~ Roseanne
Well done on getting the commissions. It must be a huge encouragement. xx
Hi Dione! Thanks so much for your sweet comments. It sure is something I can’t figure out – what might sell and what won’t. ~smile~ Roseanne
Commissions are an endorsement that someone really appreciates your work – enough to pay for it. That is definitely something to dance about. Love the quilting pattern – it complements the patchwork perfectly.
Hi Preeti,
Well, that is a fabulous way to look at it. Dancing has been ongoing since Sunday night. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. They are truly appreciated. ~smile~ Roseanne
Congratulations on your double commissions! I’m going to need some of the Disney Princess fabrics so I hope it’s still available.
Hi Rose,
I cannot see them ever getting rid of it – princesses rule! HAHA Just the charm packs I have (all FIVE the same), the coordinating fabrics are gone. But MSQC, Joann’s, Walmart and even Hobby Lobby have another print – so I think you are good. ~smile~ Roseanne
Those embroidered hearts are just adorable! Congrats on getting two commissioned quilts. Your etsy shop has some cute quilts as well.
Hi Shannon,
Well, isn’t that just the nicest thing I’ve heard all day?! Yes it is. You are too sweet. The second quilt is turning out so much better than the first – at least I think so. Thanks for visiting. ~smile~ Roseanne
