Second Sew Along Vote for Your Choice Please

After our first very successful no-pressure sew along, the Regatta Quilt by Block M, it is time to think about a second one.  Remember, this is NO PRESSURE.  No prizes, no hurry to get it complete, just do it if you want to.  This is supposed to be f.u.n. or else it is w.o.r.k.  Just think, you could have this finished easily before the holidays.  And for our N.Z. and AU friends, before the heat of summer warmer months return.  Are you interested?

Home Sewn By Us

Starting July 1, 2018

This time, I thought a democracy voice might be nice.  That means you get to vote via a short survey.  How cool is that?!  First though, I have to be the cheerleader for each choice.  That will not be hard for me since, a) I really do like them all; b) as I think of each one, I think I like that one best; and c) they could be more challenging than they appear – in a good way!  Here are the choices, in no particular order:

Sew Along Choice #1

The Up From Here block and quilt was shared earlier this year and I find this quilt to be striking.  Two different colorways were shared originally in the 2013, and I can argue convincingly for either one being a good choice.

You can use four or five fabrics plus the background color; solids would be fabulous; it is modern and quilting it would be fun.  Today I lean toward the black background, but tomorrow it may be the light one instead.  Or what about something really different like teal, red, hunter green, GRAY – yes, I could go on and on but won’t.

Sew Along Choice #2

The A Snowball’s Chance block and quilt was shared by Moda Fabrics back in 2017, and on our website much more recently.  It was designed by Barbara and I’ve had the pleasure of talking with her a bit.  She is delighted that this is a contender in the sew along, and is looking forward to seeing all the different creative choices.

Snowball Chance

It occurred to me in the middle of the night (I often cannot sleep so I think about quilting) that this pattern could also be made from Jolly Bars rather than layer cakes.  Same thing – different path, right?!  I can imagine this in so many different looks depending on the fabric.  Karla said this reminded her of a woman’s waistline, and how she used to have one.  HAHA – I’m sure that she still has one; perhaps not exactly the same as 10 years ago but who hasn’t changed a bit?!  Anyway, that led me to thinking about adding a bit of trim in between the two pieces.  It might look like an apron ruffle or perhaps a shiny black belt.  You could be SO creative with this pattern.

Sew Along Choice #3

The third quilting choice is called Triangle Quilt by Peta at She Quilts A Lot.  This pattern uses the equilateral triangle for its design, and that is not something we have ever used.  The star shape that is formed is dependent on your fabric choices and it stands out strongly to me.  If you study the picture below you will see the secondary designed formed with the white triangles as well.  Certainly different fabric choices would designate which design is most prevalent and which one you may choose to feature.

This also happens to be one of the few quilts that speaks to me about how it should be quilted.  No quilting stress for me, and that’s saying a lot!

Quilt Contenders

So now it is time to cast your vote!  You may cast only one vote, and voting is open through June 10th at 6:00 p.m. CST.  We’ll announce the winner shortly thereafter and then you can decide if you would like to join in on the no-pressure sew along.  Of course, we hope that everyone that casts a vote will join us; however, sometimes elections do not provide favorable results.  The choice to participate or not will be entirely yours. ~smile~

Vote Now!

We can’t wait to see how this turns out!  This will definitely REQUIRE a fabric purchase.  A definite maybe, that is. ~smile~

Our Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link for more quilting fun or on the sidebar of our website – check out what our friends are up to.  Like/follow us on our Facebook page and share pictures of your current project.  We love to see them.  ~smile~

  1. I voted a second time for A Snowball’s Chance and I see it probably has a snowballs chance in 😮 of winning! lol
I think all three are wonderful quilts 😊

You picked three very good choices for us to pick from. I really had to think about it, but cast my vote I did 🙂

I voted … and I was excited to see that my choice was in the lead! I won’t even need to buy any fabrics … but I’m determined to not start another project and to finish my UFOs so that I get my PHD in 2018!!!
When do you plan to start the QAL? and how often will you post the steps?
    Happy Quilting! 🙂

  4. I didn’t join in on the Regatta QAL, and I should have because I loved how those turned out! So maybe I can this time and I’ve been wanting to develop some equilateral triangle skills, too!

  5. Kathryn says:

I think I like the star quilt best, although they all do have their positives. All the best with this, I have too many projects on the go at the moment and one more I am going to take on, but I need to finish, finish, finish!!!

  6. I like the first one, but I actually like them all.

  7. Christine says:

How fun to get everyone involved in the selection process! I have to admit to bursting into laughter after seeing chrisknits’ comment while scrolling down to the bottom. Our dreams are so funny sometimes! I had a doozy of one last night myself!

How did you know? I downloaded that pattern when you first blogged about it for a later date. Maybe I’ll do it sooner rather….

  9. Rebecca Grace says:

I like the star quilt best, too… But if I was participating in the QAL I would probably disobey the instructions and make mine from diamond patches instead of from equilateral triangles — even though I do have the equilateral triangle die for my Accuquilt GO! cutter and I know that the triangle version would simplify the piecing tremendously. Unnecessary seams are a pet peeve of mine, and I like to make myself miserable with Y-seams at every possible opportunity… 🙂

Totally off topic, but the other night I dreamed Sue was cutting out fabric while wearing a Nun’s habit. Although I really don’t know what Sue looks like, the person who was doing this, in my mind, was Sue. I swear I don’t think I was on drugs, no wait, I had taken a Gabapentin for my legs. Hallucination is not a side effect listed for that drug. HAHAHAHA!!!

  11. I waffled between the star quilt and Up from Here, and ended up going with Up from Here. As for the waistline vs snowball, I woke up one morning and I was a snowball. When did that happen? Anyway, that’s a whole ‘nother discussion! Thanks for letting us vote!

  12. Shannon Fleming says:

    I vote for #1. I like simple!

  13. nanamickie says:

I really like number 2 but have some interest in number 1. I’m tired of star quilts right now so I’ll pass on that. Have a great day!

  14. Gretchen says:

I also voted for the star quilt, to me there was no other choice! However, I won’t be joining in this time. I’m so focused on my list, the longer I say no to other projects, the easier it gets. I’ll bookmark the pattern for the future though. I’ll enjoy watching all the other participants progress.

I voted for the star quilt — but you’ll have to teach me how to use an equilateral triangle. I’m pretty sure that I haven’t read that word since 10th grade geometry???Yikes!
