SAHRR2022 Launch Party Pick Your Block
The Stay-At-Home-Round-Robin is BAAAAACK and ready for the launch party! For short, we’re calling it SAHRR2022. Gee, aren’t we clever coming up with that nickname?!! Did you play along with the SAHRR last year, or are you wondering what the heck is this? We are joining five of our quilting and blogging friends to host this party which officially starts today on January 10, 2022. Typically, a round-robin involves sending your piece off to friends for them to add the next ’round’. Eventually, after all the rounds, your piece is returned to you nearly complete. This is a COVID-era robin-robin where all the rounds are sewn and chosen by you! This week . . . should you chose to complete the mission . . . is to pick your center block. It can be something new, something old, something borrowed, or something blue. Wait . . . wrong event.
SAHRR2022 Center Block
This year, for the Stay-At-Home Round-Robin center block, we chose the Evening Star block. This happens to be a block we’ve used fairly often, making a wonderful baby quilt with a nine-patch center focus and most recently, Addison’s ballerina quilt!
This block finishes at 10″ square and I’ll share the exact measurements we used below.
SAHRR2022 Evening Star
This is the basic layout of the Evening Star block, showing a nine-patch in the center. Here’s how we made our Evening Star block just in case you’d like to make one someday, too.
- 1 – 5.5″ feature fabric piece (center yellow)
- 4 each – 3.5″ squares of background and feature fabric (to make 8 – 3″ HSTs) – we used 4″ squares with extra trimming leeway
- 4 each – 3″ squares of background fabric
Match the 3.5″ squares of background fabric with a feature fabric and draw a line diagonally on the wrong side of one of the fabrics. OR, use the nifty diagonal tape I used from Allison at Cluck, Cluck, Sew, which requires no marking! Sew a scant quarter inch on each side of the line, cut apart, and press your favorite way. Repeat for the other 3.5″ squares for a total of eight half-square triangle blocks and trim to 3″ each.
Layout your pieces, matching the diagram shared above. You may want to be creative with your center section – add some embroidery, feature a nine-patch, or leave it simple and blank as we did. Sew each row together, pressing as you go. Then sew the rows together and give it a final press. Congratulate yourself – you have your center block ready for today’s launch SAHRR2022 launch party. I love our block so much it’s worthy of being shared again!

Next week starts Round One and Anja will be sharing all those details on January 17th. There will be a linky party hosted by Anja and we’ll all share how our Round One is enhancing our center block choices. We will be using the hashtag on Instagram of #stayathomeroundrobin.
