Road Trip – Fox Cities Quilt Co, Appleton, Wisconsin

We created our own little shop hop again.  This time we headed north to the city of Appleton and the surrounding area.  One of our stops was to the new quilt shop of Fox Cities Quilt Co.  This shop just opened at the beginning of July.  Previously it was called Piece by Piece, and its owners decided to retire.  It was certainly perfect timing for the new owner, Judy, and the sale was complete.

It is a really lovely shop.  High ceilings galore, many models, a nice selection of patterns and fabrics, and display vignettes that are inspiring.  The shop also has a large area for classes and demonstrations, which they have many scheduled.  Mary greeted us as we entered the shop with a friendly smile.  She was happy to show us many new fabrics that had just arrived as well as some new pattern books.

One of the first things that struck me as we entered was the very high ceilings.  It really adds to the feeling of spaciousness and openness of the shop.  As you can see in the photo above, Carol found some fabulous jelly rolls . . . one of which just HAD to come home with her.

We found just the PERFECT fabric for the stars in the I Wish You a Merry block #6.  The block needs something special and sparkly so we could complete it and this shop had just the ticket.  We also found six fat quarters that just needed to be part of our stash.  ~smile~  No specific use for them at the moment . . . but you know how that goes.

Fox Cities Quilt Co is only two hours away from our house.  It is definitely a shop that we will visit again, sooner than later.  I truly wish Judy great success with her new shop, and hope that if you are in the area you pop in and say hello.  You will definitely find something to complete you project or entice you to start a new one.

  1. Road trips are always a great way to find inspiration. I’ve never heard of the shop. Since I live in Wisconsin I just may have to engineer some sort of trip to sneak on up there. Thanks for the tour.

      Hi Cindy,
Janesville really isn’t that far away from me, but it is a bit farther to Appleton. The shop in Oshkosh was visible from I-41 and was a really nice one too. There were 2 others in the area that had fantastic selections but the staff was SO rude that I couldn’t write about them. The whole don’t say anything if you can’t say something nice rule applies. You’ll have to let me know what are you favorite shops near you! ~smile~ Roseanne

      • I can totally relate! There are shops that I only go into on a need to basis. Makes one wonder how they stay in business. Oh, I could list quite a few: Quiltagious in Mukwonago, Blue Bar in Middleton, Mill House Quilts in Waunakee, Bungalow in Ripon and Quilter’s Compass in Monticello. Those are the shops that pop into my head. I like them because they have a more modern flair to their inventory. I’m not to keen on civil war reproductions, etc. I’m a bright and cheery fabric gal! 🙂
