Red-Orange August Monthly Color Challenge Block
Month eight or August of 2019 is upon us already. The block for Jen’s 2019 Monthly Color Challenge is here and it features the beautiful red-orange color. If you visit her website the pattern is free for the month of August.
Red-Orange August Challenge
Jen released the August block at the beginning of the month. The flower that inspired this month’s color challenge is the marigold. Whenever I hear anything about marigolds, I immediately think of Sue’s grandmother, Ruby. Ruby always had a nice neat row of marigold between her house and the sidewalk leading to her side door. Every year.
I’ve always heard that marigolds keep the rabbits and deer away. I can see why as I don’t think they smell that great, but their beauty makes up for it. Red-orange was always one of my favorite crayons in the box of 64. So many choices in the Crayola box but red-orange was one that was often selected.
Red-Orange A Strip Piecing
Sue rallied and cut all the fabrics for me as she had picked the fabrics back in January for the whole year. I am really pleased with how the background fabric lets the red-orange be the star and shine. The segments went together easily with a bit of strip piecing making quick work of it.
Red-Orange Success
Ta-da! The August block is completely finished and a success. Woot woot! Here it is with all of the previous blocks hanging out on the design wall. Only four more blocks to make!

Such a striking block! I look forward to your color challenge work every month. Thanks for linking up to What I Made Monday.
Now, I personally LOVE the smell of marigolds because it’s so distinctive and it brings back a WHOOSH of childhood memories. I planted them in the flower beds with my mom when I was a little girl in Minnesota, or maybe she was planting the marigolds and I was playing with my Barbie dolls in the grass next to the flower beds. But when I smell those flowers, I get transported back to that moment in time so many decades ago. I love your cheddar orange block, and all of your blocks are looking lovely together!
That red/orange sure is a lovely color. Your blocks look great together and to think you only have 4 more! The eight you have completed look so modern together. Love!
I put marigolds in to keep the white fly away from beans and tomatoes. They obviously have many uses! The orange block looks great and all the blocks are looking very pretty.
Loving this progress shot!
Very nice block and I especially love seeing all the blocks together! It’s been a couple decades since I planted marigolds. This year I put one in a pot and it is gorgeous. I’m with you on the beauty makes up for the smell!
Roseanne — your blocks are coming along nicely and play together so well! I love the modern log cabin cross block — it’s one of my favorites!
Love those bright happy blocks! I’m looking forward to putting this quilt together too. Hubs thinks mine is psychedelic. Hahaha. Pretty sure that the quilt will be mine if I keep it. It definitely won’t be going on our bed 😉
These colorful blocks are looking great! How big will the finished quilt be? Have a great day! Mary
