Quilting On A Friend for a Friend

Quilting on a Friend.  Whenever I say those words, in my head I hear The Rolling Stones singing Waiting on a Friend from their Tattoo You album.  A true album, so you know it’s an old song – from 1981 actually.  One of the few songs you can actually understand Mick Jagger, kind of.  It has always been one of my favorites but I never knew they had made a video way back when.

Remember when I was number 2,000+ in line trying to get Rolling Stones tickets last Fall?!

Rolling Stones tickets

Yeah, that didn’t happen.  That’s exactly why ticket brokers are so popular, in my mind anyway.  Now that I’ve gotten completely off topic . . . let’s get back to quilting shall we?!

Quilting On a Friend

A nice friend and I put our collaborative minds together, and we came up with a plan.  I am doing some quilting for Mary, who had this beautiful quilt top just begging to be quilted.  Mary even had an idea of how she could picture the quilting pattern, and sent me a link.  After checking out the link, I got out my trusty acrylic board and roughly drew out a quilting pattern.  Yes!  I can quilt it without breaking the thread too often, unless I ran out of bobbin thread.

Speaking of thread, here is our choice which looks really nice with the background fabric too don’t you think?!  The background has cute hedgehogs on it – adorbs.

But what about the border??

Then I turned my attention to the border.  Hmm, I have a few stencils and I thought a cable would look nice.  Until I pulled it out and tried it, that is.  Umm. No way!

Then I saw the diamonds and knew that half of it would be perfect as it matches the pitch on the half square triangles.  Mary agreed, and we were good to go.  Now I need a little stretch of time in the sewing room, and I’ll be jumping into getting this finished up.  It happens to be a first quarter goal for Mary, and I told her my goal is to have it all wrapped up in January.  Go!

Look at you! Now you are quilting for someone else. That’s wonderful! I agree with your choices, too.

  2. I’m super eager to see this quilting come to fruition! (Instead of taking risks myself, I’m going to live vicariously through you!)

Well just so you know friend, I knew EXACTLy what you meant by “album” which is in no way to be confused with a 45 ;o) You are a kind and generous soul to take on a quilting project for a friend. And am I correct in thinking you two aunties are baby sitting tonight??

Hello Roseanne, This quilt is going to look even more astounding after you do all of your amazing quilting throughout. Have a blast while you are rocking out to the oldies! Have a wonderful day!

This looks like a great plan! So nice of you to be helping a friend. Happy Friday to you! (I just wanted to beat you to that this week!)

  7. Stones! My husband is a huge fan and I have grown to love him as he does. I tried to get him to go to one of the recent tours and he would much rather listen to them in the car! I think the pattern will be easy to quilt – here’s hoping for all good things – tension, patience and a free flowing design.

Awesome plan! Go to it Tiger!

  9. So nice to meet another Stones lover, and rambler at beginning of posts too! LOLOL I have seen them and they were incredible, so good, Mick bouncing and dancing and leaping around the stage like a 20-year-old, not a 60-something as he was at that time. Okay that is so cool that you are helping Mary meet a Q1 goal! I love it. Great quilting choices…don’t be surprised if the quilt talks to you while you’re doing the swoop dee swoops and the border ends up being slightly different than you’d planned!

  10. When you get to the front of the queue, you may begin to shop. Oh lordy, lol. This will be lovely, I’m drooling over those cute hedgehogs. Happy Friday.

  11. What a great goal for January, one that you’ll finish easily. I’m not a big Rolling Stone fan, so I’d give you my ticket 😉 if I had one. (It’s early here, and I think I need more coffee.)

  12. That would be SO fun to see The Rolling Stones. My sister saw them in Detroit and said they were awesome. I really like how the quilting design looks on your design board, and I think that diamond border is perfect! I’ve been thinking of making a scrappy binding for this quilt. Maybe I should get going on it! Thanks so much, Roseanne, and Happy Friday! Mary
