QOV Road-to-Oklahoma Block
I have always wanted to make some quilts for the Quilts of Valor (QOV) cause and 2021 is going to be THE year to do so. It is for personal reasons as a focus for this particular quilt. One of the principals in the school district where I work is retiring in June. He is a Veteran and even shares his birthday with the date Veterans are honored. Not knowing what kind of gift to get him, yet wanting it to be special, the QOV idea was born. After a bit of search on Pinterest and patterns that we have, the focus shifted to the Road to Oklahoma block. Don’t you think this will make just the best quilt?!
QOV New Fabrics
A new project of a special quilt requires new fabric don’t you think? We wanted to get fabrics from the same line – ideally a fat quarter bunch with just reds and blues. You know, there isn’t such a thing as that, it seems and why not, I couldn’t help but wonder. Instead, I searched for some star fabrics and landed on this trio called American Dreams.
While not a white-white per se, the beige stars on the white background look even better in person. All three were ordered from Missouri Star Quilt Company and the waiting game for their arrival began. I not only wanted to get started on the project for something new but also because I already knew the quilt design to use to finish it off.
Fireworks interspersed with stars would work just perfectly, don’t you think? These two samples were from the Fireburst quilt-along held by Tish back in July of 2018. Hmm, I’d better find some variegated thread for this project, too.
QOV design in EQ8
Of course, I had to head right over to EQ8 to envision exactly what the chosen fabrics would look like.
It also gives me a better idea of what size to make the quilt, how many blocks, etc. Ooh, I just LOVE the secondary patterns that are formed . . . and those stars!
Stonehenge Stars and Stripes seems like just the perfect backing for this quilt, don’t you think? We’ll also have to be sure to add a label in an equally special design of some sort. The fabrics should be in-house real soon.
