Our October 2018 OMG Goal

We are joining Patty at Elm Street Quilts again this month for her October OMG linky party.  This is our twelfth link up.  Almost one whole year of successfully completing this monthly goal.  We had a hard time picking our October goal, mostly because I did something stupid.  I ordered the backing fabric for three looming projects from MSQC and they aren’t real quick about shipping yardage.  Why did I think that was a good idea?  Thankfully, I received an email saying our shipment has been sent.  There IS hope.

October Leaves

It seems appropriate to pick this project we’ve named Las Vegas Leaves.  Another UFO project, this one has been awaiting for YEARS to see the light of day again.  We saw the project at a quilt shop near UNLV during one visit in the early 2000s (I think).

October Goal

Ultimately, our October goal is to get this quilt completely finished.  A few borders need to be added, and then it can be layered and quilted.  Of course, we have to wait for the backing fabric to come.  Here is the tan leaf-themed backing I picked out for this gem.

A nice tan thread will be a good choice for quilting in both the upper and lower threads.  My friend, Vicki from Vicki’s Crafts and Quilting blog recently told me about a quilting pattern to try.  Called Sharp Stippling by Leah Day, Vicki used it on her beautiful new table runner named Starstruck.  I may expand my stippling repertoire a bit by giving this a try.  All the glorious details will be shared in our wrap up post in less than a month!  Wish me luck!

Our other Linky Parties can be found by clicking the link or along the sidebar on our website for more quilting fun – check out what our friends are up to.  Like/follow us on our Facebook page and you can share your photos of what you’re working on.  We would love to see them!

Great fabrics and colors! I heard about the sharp stippling and will have to try it also!

I like the backing you’ve chosen, and I like the leaves pattern!
Interesting to know about MSQC. My one (and only) experience with Hancock’s of Paducah was a loooooong shipping/wait time and disinterested customer service. 🙁

Oh, the fabric will come by the time you have the borders on. It will all work out and be a great finish this month! UNLV! I haven’t thought about that place in a long time. Never went there, but Paul and I would go to Vegas now and then – not to gamble, but to stay in a cheap place that was nice, and enjoy being away. Sometimes Lake Havasu City, too. Reno is my favorite, though. The Truckee River goes right through the middle of town with a great park! It was just farther away.

Great you’ve picked out a quilt top that has been languishing. I’ve tried a few of Leah Day’s patterns of fmq, but only on small blocks. She is very creative.

Wonderful fall colors in that quilt. I am always drawn to these warm colors then in the spring I’m anxious for cool ones that remind me of the beach. You are doing a great job with you fmq and I can’t wait to see what you do here.

What a fun way to arrange your maple leaves. I think the backing fabric will be perfect for this quilt. I read the blog about sharp stippling and I want to try it too. Good luck.

  10. Disappointing to have to wait for a package to arrive, but your quilt is going to look great. I have to check out the sharp stippling. Time to talk to Vicki!
