New Commission Quilt – Dr. Seuss for Keri

Our almost-daughter, Lauren lives far away in Texas with her dear puzzle-piece husband, Joey.  She was kind enough to be talking about our quilting abilities . . . I’m not exactly sure how this went down . . . I’m totally making it up!  Somehow, her friend Keri found out that we have made a Dr. Seuss quilt in the past (for Gavin!).  Keri reached out and asked if we would be willing to make one for her.  Of course we would!  We would love to.

After a few emails and a consultation from the expert (Keri’s mom!), we agreed on a design and fabrics.  I spent some time drawing up a sketch in Excel because I still haven’t purchased EQ8 (if you have an affiliate link, would you leave me a comment please!).  Here is my make-do idea and notes for Keri.

Seuss for Keri

Seuss-layout

While the layout is not quite to scale, you get the general idea.  Five rows of Dr. Seuss book covers or characters encased by black sashing.  The first border will be Seuss book titles (white) with one final border of black.  The backing chosen is The Cat in the Hat Spotlight surrounded by polka dots.  Wrap it up with a black binding and that is one fun package.  We expect it to end up approximately 50″ x 66″ in total.

Above you’ll see the various book/character blocks we will choose from to create the middle section that comprise the five rows.  Additionally, some real nice Moda solid black will be used for the sashing and outermost border.  Lastly, for the white area in the rough design, the title fabric pictured below will be used:

Finally, the picture on the right shows The Cat in the Hat that will round out the backing.  I am hoping we can get started on it during the week of December 18th.  That may be a rough week, so we’ll see.  This will be a fun quilt to work on, I believe it will also be well loved and enjoyed.

      Hi Vicki,
Well, not as quickly as you and those snowmen runners! But it might be possible to wrap it up this year yet . . . maybe. ~smile~ Roseanne

      Hi Shannon!
I hope she likes it! It will be fun to make a larger version of the quilt we made in February for baby Gavin. ~smile~ Roseanne

  4. I want to borrow some of your energy to do all the things you all do. I get exhausted just reading about all your projects. How in the world do you manage all you do and work too!

      Hi Peggy!
It seems like you are sharing new completed projects all the time, my friend! It’s really not all that much – and it is something I enjoy doing so it is never work. In just 30 minutes last night I got one of the snowmen appliquéd on the table runner – little pieces of time like that make a huge impact. You are too kind, my friend – I’ve got you fooled. ~smile~ Roseanne
